  6. Weather update: Latest overnight picturepublished at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

Our meteorologist Paul Hudson has just given me an update:

He says that despite raining all day, the period between 16:00 and 19:00 saw a rapid increase in the rate of rainfall.

That extra rain saw rivers rising rapidly. Autumn leaves also blocked drains meaning surface water was unable to escape.

He adds that rivers have not been breached and levels appear now to be starting to fall.

Paul says he expects further showers, some heavy, overnight and into the morning but is not expecting further prolonged heavy rain which would cause further problems.
