Senior Welsh Liberal Democrat, Baroness Jenny Randerson says the party has suffered at UK level with just eight MPs in the last parliament.

"Your airtime declines and therefore it becomes much more difficult to make your case. It's been a tough election," she said.

  9. Rhondda 'out of reach' for Plaid Cymrupublished at 23:44 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

    Quote Message

Plaid Cymru sources in Rhondda are conceding the seat to Labour. The valleys seat was a top target for Plaid after party leader Leanne Wood took the constituency at last year's assembly election. But party sources at the count suggest they may not even reduce incumbent Chris Bryant's majority of almost 7,500. A declaration is expected around 03:00 BST.

Dr James Davies won the seat from Labour in 2015

Back in 2015 Conservative James Davies snatched the Vale of Clwyd from Labour's Chris Ruane, who had represented it for 18 years.

He secured the seat by just 237 votes.

The GP is standing for the seat again and his agent told our reporter Sian Elin Dafydd he was "cautiously optimistic" about his chances this evening.

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Plaid Cymru had targeted Ynys Mon to try and take the seat from Labour, who have a narrow majority of 0.66% there.

But a party source has told our reporter Mark Hutchings that it "currently looks unlikely" they will win it.

The source claimed Plaid had been squeezed by the "polarised" Conservative/Labour narrative.

  13. Count whisperspublished at 23:29 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

A senior Labour source in north Wales says despite the gloomy exit polls for the party in the Wrexham and Clwyd South constituencies, the party remains confident of holding both seats thanks to a strong youth vote.

Meanwhile in Ynys Mon, Plaid Cymru sources say the campaign has been a "struggle", while the Conservatives say they've been "greeted positively" on the doorstep. But both concede the Labour vote there seems to be holding up well.

BBC forecast suggests Bridgend, Ynys Mon, Newport East and West are too close to call

The seat held by First Minister Carwyn Jones in the assembly is deemed "too close to call" in our general election forecast.

Following analysis of the exit poll, it's suggested that the Conservatives have a 23% chance of winning Bridgend. The seat has been targeted by the Tories, and Theresa May made a campaign visit here early in the campaign.

Newport East and West and Ynys Mon are also in the "too close to call" category".

In Ynys Mon, it's suggested that Plaid Cymru has a 32% chance of victory over Labour.

  16. An exit poll surprise?published at 23:15 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

    Jac Larner
    Cardiff University

More detailed information is starting to emerge from the exit poll.

Surprisingly, it suggests that the Conservatives may do slightly better in Wales than in England, possibly gaining seats from Labour.

If this is correct then opinion polling throughout the campaign suggests that Labour’s cluster of four seats in North East Wales, in addition to Bridgend and possibly Newport West, are the most vulnerable.

    • Delyn
    • Wrexham

The forecast doesn't suggest any gains for Labour in Wales.

It will be updated throughout the night.
