    1. Conservatives

The Conservatives’ 2015 general election performance was their best in Wales since 1983. They won 11 seats and 27.2% of the vote.

The party hoped it could improve on that, and there were visits by Theresa May to Bridgend, Wrexham and Clwyd South.

Nye Davies from Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre says the Conservatives’ campaign in Wales focussed on the choice between Mrs May and Jeremy Corbyn for PM, rather than the party’s Welsh candidates in the belief that this gave them their best shot of turning the map of Wales blue.

BBC Wales Political Editor Nick Servini says that if the exit poll is correct the decision to call an election 'will not have worked out' for Theresa May.
