  19. 'A clear pattern is emerging'published at 03:20 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    Jac Larner
    Cardiff University

A clear pattern is emerging across Wales: Labour are surging and outperforming expectations, including those of the exit poll, and gaining seats from the Conservatives.

The Conservatives' vote share is also seeing a dramatic rise since 2015, but not enough to stem the Labour tide and as a result the party is losing ground.

The surge in support for the two main UK parties has squeezed the smaller parties.

Plaid Cymru’s vote has held up enough to hold on to its three seats but it looks like it may end up with its lowest share of the vote for some time.

Plaid may be able to gain a seat however in Ceredigion, as the Liberal Democrat vote looks to have collapsed even further from its historically-low point in 2015.

If things continue the way they are, it will be the lowest Liberal/Lib Dem vote in Wales ever.
