A fundraising day has been held in honour of a Wolverhampton man who was fatally stabbed outside a nightclub.

Thomas Kirwan, 23, died near the city's Uberra Club on 8 July. A number of other people were also injured.

Five people, four men and a woman, were arrested last month in connection with the incident and subsequently bailed.

Mr Kirwan's family staged the event at a sports and social club in Bushbury and hope to fulfil his dream of setting up a football team.

'Tragically killed'

The former Shropshire worker's fiancée Jade Elwell said: "Today is all in aid of Tom Kirwan.

"We want to try and raise as much money as we can for his memorial fund which will go towards his football team TK Wanderers.

"We want this football team to be a success.

"He was organising it before he was tragically killed."

Mr Kirwan's sister Martine Johnson added they had also started a petition to "raise the sentencing for carrying knives".
