Bath Half Marathon: Thousands turn out for city event

Some 15,000 runners were thought to be taking part in the race

Around 45,000 people have taken to the streets of Bath for the annual half marathon, with some 15,000 running.

Many roads around the city were shut for the two-lap race, which is in its 34th year and hopes to raise in excess of £2m for charity.

The main race was won by Paul Martelletti who finished in 1hr 05:28.

For the first time in the event's history, people were treated to a Battle of the Bands competition as runners navigated the circuit.

An elite wheelchair race, family fun run, church service and prize giving were also included in the timetable.

The course record stands at 62 minutes and one second, set by Kenyan runner Edwin Kiptoo in 2012.

The 13.1-mile (21.1km) course begins and ends in Great Pulteney Street and takes runners along a route of the city straddling the River Avon.
