A health minister blamed contracts between the last Labour government and doctors for a lack of some 24-hour services in the NHS.

Dr Dan Poulter said they had a "professional obligation" to do on-call and more "routine work" out of hours.

He was debating the issue with author and former doctor Prof Raymond Tallis, who made a film for the Daily Politics, explaining why he did not back the 24/7 service proposed by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, due to the current financial and staffing climate.
