A major route into the Isle of Man's capital is set to reopen to traffic after being shut for almost two months for maintenance and resurfacing works.

The A5 New Castletown Road between Richmond Hill and Fort North Roundabout will open at 18:30 GMT.

A spokesman for the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) said temporary traffic lights would be in place while work to resurface the road continues.

The lights would remain in place for several days, he added.

It comes after an order for the road's closure had been extended until 11 November after poor weather delayed the project.

Drivers have been asked to follow a 30mph temporary speed limit around the works

The road between Kewaigue Hill and the Energy from Waste Plant, which has been used as a diversion since the works began on 11 September, will stop being a through route again.

A barrier will be reinstalled at the exit by the Energy from Waste Plant to prevent access after the A5 reopens.
