Meet the newest members of the famous book series

Two brand new characters have just been announced for the Mr Men and Little Miss book series.

They're called Little Miss Surprise and Mr Fib, and they'll both feature in their own adventures.

The series was originally created in 1971 by Roger Hargreaves. New stories in the series are now written by Roger's son Adam.

Revealing the new characters to a group of children on the One Show, Adam said that Little Miss Surprise and Mr Fib represent "my dad's sense of humour and everything he was trying to achieve with the books".

The Mr Men and Little Miss book series has been around for over 50 years, selling over 250 million copies worldwide.

Little Miss Surprise and Mr Fib will join a cast of over 90 characters, including Mr Tickle and Little Miss Brave.

When asked what makes a good Mr Men and Little Miss character, Adam said that the start point was finding an emotion that the series hasn't explored yet.

According to Adam, the best characters are always the ones with the best stories.

Adam says that, for the Mr Men and Little Miss books, “even though the story is about fun, you end up with a lesson to be learned."

"And obviously, with Mr Fib, the lesson is that it's best not to lie!"

On Little Miss Surprise, Adam said: “The lesson to learn there is to be open to surprises, because you never know what fun might happen."

The books featuring Little Miss Surprise and Mr Fib will be published in the UK in September.
