Game Awards 2024: From Astro Bot to Fortnite - who is in the running?

Some of the biggest games of the year are going to be celebrated at one of the biggest nights for the industry - The Game Awards.

The awards are now in their tenth year and recognise some of the top games people have been playing, as well as looking ahead to some future releases.

The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in the US and will be streamed live around the world - a whopping 118 million people watched last year.

Which game has the most nominations?

Astro Bot has been nominated in seven different categories including for one of the top awards - Game of the Year.

That means it has the joint top amount of nominations.

It is also in the running for Best Family game, but faces competition from three big Nintendo titles - Princes Peach: Showtime!, Super Mario Party Jamboree and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - as well as The Plucky Squire.

The Plucky Squire sees players jumping between 2D and 3D realms.

Which other games should we look out for?

The Legend of Zelda title will also go head to head with Astro Bot in another category - Best Action/Adventure.

It is the first game in the popular series where Zelda has starred as the main playable hero in her own Nintendo game.

Fortnite has been nominated for Ongoing Game several times before, but hasn't quite won it, could this be the year it takes the prize?

It is also nominated for Best Community Support, but that's not the only way the game is involved this time around.

For the second year running the Game Awards will also have a prize within Fortnite for the best island, with players able to vote in-game.

Sports gaming

If you are a fan of sports games you will no doubt recognise some of the titles going head to head for Best Sport/Racing game.

A racing game has claimed the prize for the last three years, with Forza Motorsport winning in 2023.

F1 24 is on the starting grid this time around, but the competition is so tough, not even a podium spot is guaranteed.

EA Sports FC 25, NBA 2K25, Top Spin 2K25 and WWE 2K24 complete the rest of the line up for the category.
