Peppa Pig to get a new sibling

Peppa Pig's mum, best known as Mummy Pig, has announced that she is pregnant with her third piglet.

The voice of Mummy Pig told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "I'm excited to share that our family is getting even bigger because we're having another baby."

Morwenna explained that Mummy Pig is "due in the summer".

The animated show has told the story of Peppa, who lives with Daddy Pig, Mummy Pig, and her little brother George for more than twenty years.

So the arrival of a new sibling will be the first big change to the Pig family in the show's history.

Esra Cafer from Hasbro, the company which owns the Peppa Pig franchise, said the new addition will show the "ups and downs" of getting a new brother or sister.

"Pre-schoolers welcoming a new sibling will strongly relate to these new stories and can learn how to handle the new moment," she said in an interview with the newspaper The Independent.

Mummy Pig will announce that she is pregnant during the final episode of the current series of Peppa Pig, which will air on the March 30, the same say as Mother's Day in the UK.

Viewers can expect to see the new baby pig on screen in the autumn.
