Euro 2028 might be a long way off, but the excitement is already starting to build.

Announcing the match schedule at Piccadilly Circus in London last night, Uefa confirmed that the first game will kick off at Cardiff's National Stadium of Wales.

And if Wales - one of the co-hosts along with England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland - qualify for the tournament, they'll play this very first game on Friday 9 June 2028.

Debbie Hewitt, who is the boss of the company who are delivering the tournament locally, said: "The countdown is truly on now to what will be an unforgettable summer of football."

The Euro 2028 stadiums are dotted all across the host nations, with games taking place at:

  • Cardiff: National Stadium of Wales

  • Dublin: Dublin Arena

  • Glasgow: Hampden Park

  • Newcastle: St James' Park

  • Manchester: Etihad Stadium

  • Liverpool: Hill Dickinson Stadium

  • Birmingham: Villa Park

  • London: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

  • London: Wembley Stadium

If all the hosts qualify, they'll play their first games at a stadium in their nation.

Like Wales, Ireland and Scotland will play all their group games at home, with the Republic of Ireland playing at Dublin Arena and Scotland at Glasgow's Hampden Park.

England's qualification would see them play their first match at the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City, following up with games at London's Wembley Stadium.

Northern Ireland was ruled out as a host nation last year, with the UK government saying that it wouldn't provide funding to redevelop Belfast's Casement Park stadium in time for the tournament in 2028.

If they qualify, they'll be playing all their group games in England, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Villa Park and Wembley.

But Belfast will be the home of the qualification draw, taking place in December 2026, where teams will be drawn to play each other for places at Euro 2028.

These qualifiers will take place between March and November 2027.

All these dates are a long way off, and before Euro 2028 there's plenty of international football action to get stuck into.

We now know that the England men's team are heading to the 2026 Fifa World Cup, with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland battling it out for spots.

And next year, qualifiers for the Women's World Cup 2027 begin, a tournament where England's Lionesses will be hoping to add to their European champions title in Brazil.

So, get your diaries set for the next few years - there's lots of football before the Euro 2028 final at Wembley.
