Wallace and Gromit: Meet Norbot the smart gnome

The film will feature a brand new character

A brand new character co-starring in an upcoming Wallace and Gromit movie has been unveiled by the BBC.

Norbot the robotic smart gnome will feature in the latest adventure about inventor Wallace and his best pup Gromit.

The film, which comes out at Christmas, was first announced earlier this year.

The movie will also see the return of supervillain, penguin Feathers McGraw.

Wallace and Gromit are known for their wacky adventures

Actor Reece Shearsmith is the voice behind Wallace's latest invention Norbot.

He's a pre-programmed smart gnome designed to do any kind of gardening task or "gnome improvement".

A first-look clip from the movie shows Wallace showing his quirky invention to Gromit who doesn't seem quite convinced about his owner's latest clever creation.

The robot, who wears a green shirt with a black belt and a pointy red hat, enthusiastically introduces himself after being let out of a giant wooden box.

Reece Shearsmith said it was a "joy" to bring the robot to life.

"As a huge fan of Wallace and Gromit, it's been such a joy to work alongside Nick and Merlin and the team at Aardman to bring Norbot to life in such an exciting story", he said.

"I think fans of all ages are in for a treat, and I can't wait for everyone to see it!"

Supervillain Feathers McGraw will be on our screens once again this Christmas

In the new movie, called Vengeance Most Fowl, dog Gromit grows concerned as Wallace grows more and more dependent on his inventions, including Norbot who seems to develop an evil mind of his own...

"We are delighted to introduce Norbot, a 'nifty odd-jobbing robot' gnome, designed to help Gromit with his gardening chores," said the film's directors Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham.

"Norbot is Wallace's most proud achievement to date and, according to Wallace, his 'best invention ever'!

"Garden gnomes have long been a part of Wallace and Gromit's world, but this is no cute patio ornament. Norbot is the ultimate gnome - a 'smart gnome'."

The film will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer and BBC One this Christmas in the UK.
