Meet your new Harry Potter trio!

The new trio of troublemakers for HBO's Harry Potter series has been revealed.

More than 30,000 children auditioned for the roles last year but only three could be chosen.

They are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.

Executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod said: "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.

"We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."

Other prominent roles in the series were announced earlier this year.

They are:

  • John Lithgow as Dumbledore

  • Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape

  • Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall

  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid

  • Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

  • Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell

The new show is due to start filming this summer, with the first series potentially airing as early as 2026 on the streaming service HBO Max.

According to HBO, the series will be a "faithful adaptation" of the books written by JK Rowling, who will be an executive producer for the series.

The show will reportedly go into more detail than the eight movies which were released between 2001 and 2011.

HBO Max said the series will be: "Full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years.

"Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally."
