What is para dance sport?

Para dance sport is where athletes with physical impairments, that affect the lower half of their body, compete in different types of dance.
There's lots of ballroom dances like the waltz and quickstep that you might recognise from Strictly Come Dancing.
There's also Latin American dances like the cha-cha-cha and jive, and freestyle presentation which could be anything from ballet to hip-hop.

There's different categories too.
Athletes can compete as a single wheelchair user, as a part of a duo of two wheelchair users, or compete combi-style, dancing with a partner who doesn't use a chair.
Whilst para dance sport is recognised as a paralympic sport, it was not selected as an event in the 2024 Paralympic Games.
You'll be able to watch the world championships live streamed online.
