England manager Gareth Southgate has admitted England are 'falling short' after they failed to win in last night's match against Denmark at Euro 2024.

Despite an early goal from Harry Kane, Denmark soon managed to equalise.

It means England are not yet through to the Euro 2024 knockout stages and missed the chance to qualify as Group C winners.

There have been criticisms from former England captain Alan Shearer who described the performance as "very poor" and said "it wasn't good enough."

A promising start saw Harry's Kane score the game's first goal after 18 minutes.

But Denmark were dominant for much of the match and were level 17 minutes later, when Morten Hjulmand struck an equaliser from 25-yards away.

Phil Foden hit the post in the second half, but it was a frustrating night for England and their fans with some booing the team at the end of match.

With a win against Serbia in their first game, England still top group C and only need a draw against Slovenia to guarantee qualification for the last 16 knockout rounds.

England manager Gareth Southgate says there is work to be done

Former England captain, and Match of the Day expert, Alan Shearer said there was "no energy" and "so much more to come from those players out there", but that the performance was "concerning".

He also said Southgate's "not getting the best out of England's best players."

Gareth Southgate said the team kept giving away possession and that their performance needs to improve if England wants to progress to the next stages of the tournament. They finished as runners up in Euro 2020.

England captain Harry Kane said the team "hadn't been good enough" on the ball. He explained: "it's a time to stay calm, a time to improve for sure."
