Southampton have become the first team to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

It comes after they lost 3-1 against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, their 25th defeat of the season.

With seven games left to play, it's the earliest a team has ever dropped out of the division in the league's history.

Following the result, Southampton have also now confirmed that Ivan Juric has left the club.

Southampton have won just 10 points from their 31 games so far this season

Southampton have had a difficult season, winning just 10 points from their 31 games so far.

Their result against Tottenham means that even if they were to win all their remaining seven matches, they wouldn't have enough points to stay up in the Premier League.

Southampton now need two more points to avoid beating Derby County's record-low tally of 11 points, achieved in the 2007-08 season.

After the match, Southampton captain Jan Bednarek said the team now needed to focus on their remaining fixtures.

Southampton have parted ways with manager Ivan Juric

He explained: "We can't change the past, the only thing we can do in the last seven games is to enjoy being in the Premier League," he said.

"We have to improve as players and as a club. Hopefully we are going to build something great. The best thing is that we can learn, we can work hard and we can improve," Bednarek added.

Southampton have also now confirmed that manager Ivan Juric has left the club following their relegation.

Juric was appointed in December 2024 but won only two of his 16 matches.

In a statement, the club thanked Juric and his staff for their hard work "as they fought against the odds to try and keep us up".
