Disney to open first theme park in the Middle East

The Abu Dhabi resort will be Disney's seventh theme park

Disney has announced it'll be opening a brand new theme park in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

It'll be the seventh since Disneyland first opened in Anaheim, California in 1955 and its the first Disney theme park in the Middle East.

The theme park resort will be developed by Disney in partnership a leisure and entertainment company called Miral.

It'll be located on Yas island, a popular tourist destination in Abu Dhabi. The island is already home to a Warner Bros World, a SeaWorld and a Waterworld.

While its not yet known exactly how long it'll take for the theme to be built or when the new park will open, Disney has said it will make use of "cutting edge technology" and there will be "immersive entertainment experiences" for visitors.

Disney also says the new resort will combine its stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi's unique culture.

Once complete, the resort will join theme parks in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
