Nice move up to ninth in Ligue 1 with their home win against title-chasing Marseille

Marseille missed the chance to go top of Ligue 1 as they lost to 10-man Nice.

The hosts went in front when Valentin Eysseric sent a cross into the area and Romain Genevois poked the ball over the line for his first goal for the club.

Despite being down to 10 men after Kevin Gomis picked up two bookings in quick succession, Nice went 2-0 ahead with Niklas Hult's close-range finish.

Florian Thauvin lobbed over goalkeeper Mouez Hassen to score for Marseille but they could not grab an equaliser.

The defeat leaves Marcelo Bielsa's side one point behind leaders Lyon, who will go four points clear at the top if they win their home match against Metz on Sunday.

Marseille are hoping to win the Ligue 1 title for the first time since 2009-10.
