Commanders aren't going to play conservative. That was 34-year-old punter Tress Way on that fake punt and he has only thrown it twice in his career - once in 2016 and once in 2018 but nothing that big. He is three for three as a passer in the NFL!

Jayden Daniels faces some pressure on third down but can't find an open receiver and the Commanders bring out the field goal unit.

And no faking this time as Zane Gonzalez kicks a 46-yarder to reduce the gap to just eight points.

The Commanders had to swing that momentum back into their favour. The fake punt was key.

I've not seen a first quarter like that for a long time, if ever - with Washington having the ball for almost 13 of the 15 minutes and running 28 plays to just seven for the Eagles yet Philly are well in the lead.

    Crazy game, just crazy.

Speaking to BBC Sport before their game at Tampa Bay on Wildcard Weekend, Washington's British defensive end Efe Obada admitted he was biased when saying the Commanders would win Super Bowl 59.

"We've just got to focus on each week, take every game as it comes and ultimately we're going to be at the top of the mountain," he said.

Many would have scoffed at that suggestion given the Commanders are the sixth seed in the NFC Conference and, according to the odds heading into the play-offs, 10 teams were seen as having a better chance of winning the Super Bowl.

But after winning at Tampa Bay then Detroit the past two weekends, Washington are now just one win away from their first Super Bowl since 1992. They're behind but are still swinging...

The Eagles look good. It just seems like they're ready for this moment, everything is so easy and smooth. They just look like a Championship winning football team.

  7. End of first quarterpublished at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Washington Commanders 3-14 Philadelphia Eagles

The quarter ends with Jayden Daniels threading the needle with a pinpoint pass to Dyami Brown for 24 yards and now Washington are just inside the Philadelphia 28.

The Eagles defence probably needed the breather at the end of the quarter as Washington have been getting a move on.

  8. Fake punt!published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Washington Commanders 3-14 Philadelphia Eagles

They're not going for it? Are you kidding, of course they're going for it, they're just going for it via a fake punt, which they complete to keep the drive going.

Punter Tress Way fakes everyoen out, including me, and then finds third-string tight end Ben Sinnott for a 23-yard gain and first down.

The nerve on this Washington offence....

  9. Nearly picked!published at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Washington Commanders 3-14 Philadelphia Eagles

Wheels coming off a bit for Washington now, with Jayden Daniels floating a dangerous old pass down the middle with two Eagles defenders looking to pounce for the interception.

It's not picked off though so Washington live to fight another day. They're not going for it on fourth down this time though as the punt team comes out.

All the talk has been about stopping Saquon Barkley. Washington insisted they were going to find a way.

And on Philly's first two drives he scores touchdowns.

You have Washington have a plan B.

Guess who? Yep - Saquon Barkley punches it in from four yards from just a simple hand-off but it's all about his speedy change of direction, as he looks to go right up the middle but zooms out to the right and nobody can match that lateral speed across the field of his.

17th rushing touchdown of the season for Saquon.

  12. Great catchpublished at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Washington Commanders 3-7 Philadelphia Eagles

DeVonta Smith takes a great catch down the left sideline, looked on replay that his foot may have been out of bounds but before Washington can challenge, the Eagles run up and get a play off and the catch stands.

    Philly closing in again...

As a runner that's when you're most vulnerable. You're trying to get extra yards, he's holding the ball well but Zack Baun comes in and attacks the ball.

  14. Postpublished at 20:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

One only minor downside of Philly scoring off one play was that Philly's defence had just had to play through an 18-play drive, so may have been tired.

Definitely didn't seem that way on that turnover.

  15. Turnover! Eagles ballpublished at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Washington Commanders 3-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Another huge play! Zach Baun punches the ball out of Dyami Brown's grasp and Reed Blankenship dives on the loose ball to recover possession for the Eagles.

They get the ball back just inside Washington's half. Turnovers always huge, but in the play-offs they're even bigger!

So Washington go 18 plays and seven minutes and Philadelphia run one play and take the lead....

Can Jayden Daniels produce a response.

It is just an absolute mirror image of how the game started against the LA Rams. 78 and 62-yard touchdown runs last week in the snow for Saquon Barkley - 60-yards off the line of scrimmage today.

When you're playing against a guy like Saquon Barkley you have to contain him, you can't let him get on the perimiter and break all these tackles!

  20. touchdown

Touchdown - Eagles!published at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Washington Commanders 3-7 Philadelphia Eagles

No way! Are you kidding me? Saquon Barkley. First play, 60 yards, no flags - touchdown Eagles!

That's Barkley's seventh TD of 60 yards or more this season and just an incredible start to this game - again, they very first play for the Eagles!

It's just a simple shovel pass to get Barkley into space, but there's a huge gap at the edge of the line, then two tacklers fail to get a grip of him as he produced two, maybe three spin moves before then finding himself with the end zone at his mercy.

Is the MVP voting still open?
