Patrick Mahomes is just being manhandled by this 49ers defence so far, as he wriggles out of a sack but then is tacked after a short gain of three yards or so, meaning the Chiefs have to punt yet again.

Defences on top would be an understatement.

  3. Mistake from Mahomespublished at 00:39 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

There seems to be a bit of confusion among the refs whether Patrick Mahomes is guilty of intentional grounding as he just throws the ball away when getting tackled.

Eventually it is and it costs the Chiefs 10 yards as they face a second and 20 backed up on their own 10.

NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live

Maybe it's some frustration from Travis Kelce, but it can't get physical. I've never seen a bump like that before. And Andy Reid doesn't know it's coming, he's watching something else.

  5. Dre Greenlaw - injured?published at 00:36 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

Maybe not picked up by the cameras but Linebacker Dre Greenlaw looks to have injured himself while running onto the field for the latest phase of play. He's currently surrounded by team mates and medical team.

  6. 'Outstanding' defencepublished at 00:35 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Osi Umenyiora, former defensive end for the New York Giants on ITV: This is exactly what I'm all about. Eveyrone was talking about these high-flying offences but Kansas City have shut down the Niners offence especially when it counts.

Their defensive backs are playing some outstanding football, especially when Brock Purdy tries to run. They have shut down Christian McCaffrey. They have shut down Deebo Samuel.

The Niners have to find a way to establish their run game.

  7. Sack!published at 00:33 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

George Karlaftis drags Brock Purdy down in the backfield for the sack as the QB just couldn't find anyone open down the field on third down.

The Niners will have to punt as the game just gets a bit messy - but there's some tough defence being played so far.

  8. Kelce fuming!published at 00:29 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Travis Kelce is going absolutely bananas on the sideline after that Isiah Pacheco fumble - he bumps into head coach Andy Reid as he's screaming at him, presumably as he wants to get a sniff of the football as he's been nowhere near it as yet.

  9. 'Turnovers are huge'published at 00:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Christian Wilkins, Miami Dolphins defensive tackle, on Sky Sports: That’s a huge play right there, especially after giving up such a huge play to Hardman the play before. Turnovers are huge in this game.

  10. Fumble! Niners get it backpublished at 00:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Oh no! Isiah Pacheco of all people coughs the ball up as he tries to fight his way inside the 10-yard line and San Francisco get the ball back!

That's an absolute momentum killer for the Chiefs, the very next play after Patrick Mahomes slung that huge 53-yard pass and they give the ball away.

  11. Wow!published at 00:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes has had enough and launches a deep bomb that's caught by Mecole Hardman right down the 10-yard line to set the Chiefs up to try and score.

    What a play.

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Rookie Rashee Rice gets the hand off to convert a short yardage first down - it almost looks like he offloaded it right at the end as the ball ended up with Justin Watson!

  13. 'Chiefs need to step it up'published at 00:24 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Jason Bell, former cornerback with the New York Giants on ITV: Brock Purdy has been proficient, he's been efficient, his footwork looks crisp. He is delivering, especially when beating man coverage. We have talked about his timing and his anticipation and he is on point right now.

Kansas City need to step it up.

  16. field goal

Field goal - 49erspublished at 00:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Rookie Jake Moody makes a slice of Super Bowl history as he converts from 55 yards out - that's the longest field goal ever made in the big game!

Moody has had his problems with misses this season, and in the play-offs, but that was drilled right down the middle and he's now the owner of a Super Bowl record.

  17. Close!published at 00:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 0-0 Kansas City Chiefs

Heart in mouth time as Brock Purdy heaves a pass into the end zone targeting Deebo Samuel in the end zone, but Trent McDuffie is there to bat the ball away and save the touchdown.

  18. It's not boring but no one is scoring...published at 00:18 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

End of the first quarter 0-0.

Not trying to jinx it but for the record the lowest ever Super Bowl was back in 2019 when the New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3

That'll take us to the end of the first quarter and it remains scoreless. Not many would have had that down, albeit we knew about these two fine defences.

We'll come back in a crucial spot with San Francisco facing a third and 14 on the KC 37, how aggressive will they be?

  20. Where's Taylor?published at 00:15 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

We know she's inside Allegiant Stadium but with the first quarter nearly over she hasn't flashed up on the big screen. Jay Z, Queen Latifah and Paul Rudd have though. Come on Travis...hurry up and score a touchdown!
