  1. Kansas City are in the end zone...published at 01:55 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

Sadly it's only their cheerleaders with a performance during a timeout. The Chiefs struggling to find their attacking groove. Crowd flat.

  2. Great punt!published at 01:52 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 10-3 Kansas City Chiefs

The good news for the Chiefs is that the defence bails Patrick Mahomes out by forcing the Niners to punt.

The bad news for the Chiefs is that Chris Conley gets downfield for the Niners to down the punt at the one-yard line!

So Mahomes will be in his own end zone when he gets the ball back, and the way they've been playing so far would suggest that's not a great thing!

  3. Interception!published at 01:50 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

Did I say awful start? Make that catastrophic as Patrick Mahomes then throws an interception as he tries to force a throw forward on the run, but it's a huge miss from the two-time Super Bowl MVP as he can only find Niners safety Ji'Ayr Brown.

That's a first interception thrown by Mahomes in the post season in 218 pass attempts. Huge.

  4. Fumble!published at 01:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 10-3 Kansas City Chiefs

Urgh! Not the start the Chiefs wanted as a simple toss to Isiah Pacheco is fumbled by the running back who has to race backwards to collect the ball for a loss of 12!

    Awful start.

That Usher performance whetted your appetite? Here's a bit more from the BBC Sounds archive.

  8. Usher shines in half-time showpublished at 01:45 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

    Steven McIntosh
    Entertainment reporter

Usher has just left the stage after a dazzling half-time show which features a plethora of star guests, a brass band, and plenty of breathless choreography.

A disclaimer shown before the performance jokingly warned viewers it would feature "singing, dancing, sweating, gyrating, and possible relationship issues".

It kicked off a dynamic performance which took advantage of Usher's dancing skills as much as his sizeable back catalogue.

Before his half-time show, Usher admitted it had been "a challenge to squeeze 30 years in to 13 minutes". But the R&B star did an admirable job of cramming in as many of his most recognisable songs as possible.

Usher switched effortlessly between the two apexes of his music: club anthems and sex jams.

A duet with Alicia Keys was a particular highlight - the pair performed their hit My Boo - while Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am joined him for OMG.

But the best was saved until last - when both Lil Jon and Ludacris joined him for a pulsing rendition of his 2004 smash Yeah!

  9. Usher: Are you not entertained?published at 01:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

Today I am a 40-something impartial BBC journalist...but for the last 15 minutes I was 16 again. Listening to my freshly bought Usher album on a CD player. (Google it). Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Lil' Jon , Jermaine Dupri and will.i.am the special guests as he effortlessly skipped through the hits. Roller blades on stage at the Super Bowl - a brave man. Take a bow Usher. Let's hope you've energised the attacking players on both teams ahead of the second half. Yeah!

  17. First half statspublished at 01:21 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February

San Francisco 49ers 10-3 Kansas City Chiefs

No doubt the 49ers had the best of it, with the first downs and time of possession telling you that straight away.

That's something the Chiefs need to fix as their defence, even as good as it is, will get worn down if the offence can't keep the ball longer.

Neither side has had too much joy running the ball so far, while almost half of Patrick Mahomes' yardage came on that one 53-yard bomb to Mecole Hardman.

San Francisco v Kansas City stats:

    • First downs: 12-7
    • Yards: 189-157
    • Rush yards: 49-39
    • Pass yards: 140-118
    • Sacked: 1-2
    • Penalties: 3-5
    • Possession 17:07-12:53

There's been some clear frustration from Travis Kelce about his lack of involvement. There'll be some frank conversations at half-time.

Is he going to come out and be the grim reaper, be the guy who makes a big difference in the second half? We've seen him do it before.

He and Mahomes have that connection where suddenly he's got three catches for 70 yards and potentially a touchdown, and the whole game is flipped on its head.

A strange half in many ways - with the two defences playing superbly well to keep these two quarterbacks without a touchdown in that opening 30 minutes.

Brock Purdy has been cool, calm and collected, but Patrick Mahomes is rattled - like the rest of his team.

He's been on the run most of the night, and not helped by that Isiah Pacheco fumble when they were in range of the end zone, while a silly defensive penalty gave San Francisco a helping hand.

For all the 49ers have been on top, it took a crazy touchdown to get them into the end zone - adding an extra layer to a mad first half.

What will the second half bring!?
