That was a lightning strike from Detroit, specifically Jahmyr Gibbs and just the way it was constructed really had Washington at sixes and sevens as the momentum just kept on building.

Detroit were up to the line quickly and dominated Washington's defensive front - but it's the speed and power of Gibbs, who can be just as effective in the run or pass game, that's so tough to stop.

The Lions just get up a head of steam and run over teams, and they did that to the Commanders right there.

Jahmyr Gibbs is just an absolutely scary dude, whether you hand it to him or throw it to him, he can go the distance.

Every defensive coordinator in the league is scared of him because of his explosiveness.

Jahmyr Gibbs explodes into action with a 15-yard run followed by a 23-yard catch as he shows just how dangerous he can be.

Tack on a nine-yard rush after that and Detroit are right on the goal line and looking to score now after that impact from Gibbs.

Jameson Williams is a speedster for the Lions and he shows his pace by getting free for a 19-yard completion by Jared Goff.

It's an intersting call. I would have taken a field goal and taken the points. It looks like there was a misscue with that quarterback sneak.

Uh oh! Marcus Mariota comes onto the field as Washington go for it on fourth-and-one to make it two quarterbacks on the field.

It shapes up to be a QB sneak but once snapped Mariota is looking to fake it and flick it back to Jayden Daniels, but he's wrapped up by the Detroit defence and Washington turn it over on downs.

They were on the Detroit 28 as well so in very kickable range but Dan Quinn opted to be aggressive - that's the only way they'll keep up with Detroit you fancy.

A quick three-and-out was not what we expected from thsi Detroit offence, but after the returning David Montgomery gets lit up in the backfield for a five-yard loss Jared Goff fails with a third down throw and Detroit have to punt.

Washington kick us off and Jared Goff comes onto the field with the league's best offence to start the game.

Jared Goff has been incredible to watch, he's got a whole new life with the Lions. His receiving corp is unbelieveable.

After going 4-13 last season, Washington have improved to 12-5 and claimed a play-off win, with Jayden Daniels set to be named Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Detroit were the league's highest scorers as quarterback Jared Goff led the Lions to a historic season. Goff had the fourth-best pass completion rate of all-time, with only Joe Burrow having more passing yards and only Burrow, Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield having more touchdown passes.

They got over the first hump last season by winning a play-off game.

Can we go win the NFC Championship? Can we go win the Super Bowl? That’s the next hump for the Lions to get over.

The Commanders have made a habit of winning games late on, and they got to this stage in dramatic fashion last week - buy the width of a post!

Detroit started the season with an overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams, who they beat in last season's play-offs, before losing 20-16 at home to Tampa Bay.

The Lions were then roaring, reeling off an 11-game win streak to set a franchise record for consecutive wins, despite having as many as 16 players injured at one point.

In what was billed as a potential Super Bowl rehearsal, Buffalo won 48-42 in Detroit, but the Lions won their next two to set up a winner-takes-all clash with divisional rivals Minnesota.

The Lions prevailed to clinch the NFC's number one seed and end the season with a host of franchise firsts:

• Number one Conference seed
• Back-to-back division champions
• Back-to-back seasons with 10+ wins
• Swept division (6-0)

After finishing last season with a 4-13 record, Washington came into the season with a new head coach in Dan Quinn and a rookie quarterback in Jayden Daniels.

They lost 37-20 at Tampa Bay in week one, but the Commanders won seven of their next eight games, before a run of three straight defeats left them with a 7-5 record.

Washington then won their last five games of the season - the last four by six points or fewer - to finish behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East and clinch a wildcard spot.

The Commanders then went to Tampa Bay and claimed their first play-off win since 2006. They were the only wildcard team to win last week, kicking a field goal as time expired to make it five straight games they have won on the final play.
