Top seeds Detroit host Washington next up - with the high-powered Lions offence taking on the never-say-die Commanders, who have made a habit at pinching last-gasp victories.

What Travis Kelce understands is space. And what Patrick Mahomes sees better than anybody is voids in your coverage.

It was his (Kelce) day. He looked fresh and rested.

"I knew we were going to be play-off contenders, I knew I just had to take care of my body, come here ready to work, I've been here before and I know how hard these guys work. It's a culture thing.

"Everybody's got to sacrifice something, everybody got to do something different, put their mind on one thing. We've got two games, just go out there and battle.

"The chemistry (between Mahomes and Kelce) is crazy, Travis is the best to ever do it. I've never seen a tight end better than him. I love seeing those two connect, it's a great connection they've got together."

In many ways that was a classic 2024 season Kansas City Chiefs performance - the defence kept the Texans in check and Patrick Mahomes generated just enough to get the job done.

And throw in some special teams magic and it's a classic Chiefs win.

"The goal is to continue in the play-offs. That was a good team win, we've got to be better offensively in some situations.

"We scored 23 points against a really good team. We came out, battled, found ways to get points.

"You know Travis Kelce is always going to show up in big moments. Everybody was asking where Travis Kelce is at - I think he showed the world where he's at."

CJ Stroud takes a very careful knee due to his injury and the celebrations can start as the Kansas City Chiefs make it to the AFC Championship game for a seventh straight year.

The Texans slip to 0-6 in the Divisional Round while Patrick Mahomes is now 7-0 in this stage of the play-offs to keep his record of getting to at least the AFC title game in every year he's been a starter in Kansas City.

Quite remarkable.

Oh, what's this? Chiefs punter Matt Araiza doesn't kick the ball from his own goal line, and instea goes on a long run in his own end zone and eventually out of the side, which gives the Texans a two-point safety but takes valuable time off the lock.

The play-offs are about the fourth quarter. Who are you in the second half? There's a reason we condition, why we lift the weights. When we talk about the Chiefs, it's their ability to close out games in the correct way.

The kick looked a bit low from Ka'imi Fairbairn and in fact it was Leo Chenal who got a big hand on it from the line. The Chiefs really know how to pressure these kicks when they need to.

Chiefs can see this game out now.

What!? My word, the Houston field goal attempt is blocked by the Chiefs! Looks like Justin Reid gets an arm on it as he came racing around the edge.

We've seen this before from the Chiefs special teams unit...

The Chiefs dial up a sack! It's that man George Karlaftis again who gets home on just a four-man rush by Kansas City and CJ Stroud is hurt and needs to be helped off as Houston go for the field goal.

Here we go then, two minutes left and the Texans on third down on the 13-yard line needing two scores, they don;t need the TD first but it'd be nice, what will they dial up?

It's not CJ Stroud in this picture, but it just about sums up the Chiefs' defensive effort tonight, sacking the quarterback seven times.

The Texans are fighting! CJ Stroud is coming through, he is making it happen. Big throws when they need it.

A seventh (7th) sack on CJ Stroud as Houston are backed up to the KC 13 again after Xavier Hutchinson had got them down to the five.
