    BBC Sport

Romell Glave, speaking to BBC Sport after winning the bronze medal in the men's 100m final:

"It feels amazing. Just the journey to be here. I’m grateful to God, my coach and team to help me to be here today.

"It’s been a difficult journey but I’m here to show that I can come up from anything and it’s just a stepping stone for bigger things to come in the future."

On coming away with a medal on his major debut:

"It’s incredible, I wanted to get the gold but I’ll take the positives from it and learn from it and hope that I can get a rematch at the Olympics.

"I will go back, look at the video and work on it."

How did he cope with the false starts?

"We practice a lot of blocks in training, we're setting them each time after each round. I just reset and just cope with it under pressure. I have to, it’s a mind game from here."

On facing the Olympic champion in Italy:

"For me I was focusing on my execution, I just locked in to what I need to do. I think I did it but I’m a not disappointed not to get the gold medal, but so close."

"I aim for the Olympic trials, that’s my main focus and hopefully I get to the Olympics."

  3. Chalmers in 'form of life' for championshipspublished at 22:36 British Summer Time 8 June

In the morning, we will have the heats for the 400m hurdles for both the men's and women's events.

Great Britain 400m hurdler Alastair Chalmers says he is in the "form of his life" as he prepares to compete in the European Championships.

The 24-year-old from Guernsey is hoping to put an injury-hit 2023 behind him and make the Olympic qualifying mark of 48.70 seconds in Rome.

Chalmers won Guernsey's first-ever track medal at a Commonwealth Games when he took bronze in Birmingham two years ago.

"I'm healthy. I'm running well, winning races and I'm beating some guys who have been there and done it," he told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"I'm in great shape and just going to take it one round at a time on Sunday.

"Last year was a shame getting injured early on, I just couldn't get back to my full potential.

"But this year it's just been amazing."

Dina Asher-Smith got a bye to the women's 100m semi-finals, which take place from 20.13 BST tomorrow.

    Men's 5000m final

    BBC Sport

George Mills was talking to BBC Sport, after winning the silver medal in the men's 5,000m.

On winning Britain's first medal of the Championships:

"My team (OAC Europe) got a medal in the 5,000m last night, bronze. Marta (Gracia), my team mate got bronze (in the women's 5000m) so I was like 'OK, my time to step up now' and fortunately we’ve got two medals in two events for my team."

    On finishing behind Jakob Ingebrigtsen:

"Yeah it’s cool but the track’s 400m, I try and run round one almost every week. Running’s what I do. I treat it like any other race. There’s no special occasion here."

    On his hopes for Paris:

"I want to run the 1500m and the 5000m in Paris and hopefully tonight has done my chances of selection no harm.

"We’ll see. We are still three weeks out to trials, straight back to training as of tonight or tomorrow and then we’ll get stuck in."

Accomplished something father Danny Mills never did, in running out at the Stadio Olimpico:

"He came here twice, but maybe on the bench."

    Harry Poole
    BBC Sport

George Mills won European 5,000m silver and Romell Glave clinched bronze in the 100m as Great Britain got on the medals table in Rome.

Mills, 25, clocked 13 minutes 21.38 seconds to finish runner-up to Norwegian star Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who proved too strong in the closing stages to win in 13:07.48.

Glave ran 10.06 seconds to make the men's 100m podium as the British team won its first two medals on day two of the championships.

Mills' impressive run for silver followed three fourth-placed finishes for British team-mates, as Cindy Sember, Jacob Fincham-Dukes and Scott Lincoln each fell narrowly short of a podium place.

The Briton, son of former England footballer Danny Mills, was denied gold only by Ingebrigtsen, 23, who having sealed a third successive European 5,00m title will now aim to complete a third straight golden double at the championships in the 1500m.

Her first throw of the final was the best, 67.04m enough for victory.

Jorinde Van Klinken of the Netherlands moved up into the silver medal spot on her final throw, hitting 65.99m - her season best.
