George Mills competes for GB & NI in the men's 5000m this evening. Through his father, he knows all about what it takes to represent your country at the highest level.

His dad is former England footballer Danny Mills, and George says the man who represented England at the 2002 World Cup has given him tools needed to succeed on the track.

"Discipline and focus," Mills told BBC Look North about what his dad taught him about sport. "The sporting background is normal to me as I saw it growing up. It is what I think is normal life."

Mills is representing Britain in both the 1500m and 5k at these championships, and is aiming for medals in both.

"You come into the Championships to win medals and that is what I am aiming for – we will see what happens on the track!" he said.

As for the Olympics, Mills is not short of ambition.

"Compete in the 1500m and the 5k – the Olympics is every four years, so you want to spend as much time racing there," he said. "That would be the ideal situation.

"I feel like I have got the tools to compete with the best guys out there."

We have had an awful lot of false starts tonight. I wonder if it’s this big, enthusiastic but perhaps not particularly experienced crowd gathered around the blocks and the start area. There’s just been too many. It’s bizarre.
