Word from the ground is we're going to restart at 21:00 GMT.

The ground must be wetter than I first thought.

A rudimentary super-sopper is currently being pushed around the outfield.

Reece Topley has just emerged from the dressing room to test out that injury. I wouldn't say he looked entirely comfortable.

  3. Postpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

    The covers are coming off.

We'll soon be getting back under way with West Indies 33-3 in the fifth over.

Brendon McCullum will be watching from afar. Everyone playing knows this is a semi-audition.

Fingers crossed Reece Topley is not seriously injured.

Mahmood had a couple of looseners early on and wasn't punished. He found his way into the spell and got a few to nip around. When he is on, he is such a rhythm bowler, he gets it to zip off the pitch.

Reece Topley has been so unlucky with injuries and hopefully that knee will somehow feel better in the break for rain, but it didn’t look good.

  7. Postpublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

I don't think this rain is going to last long.

The sun is out and it seems to have pretty much blown through.

  8. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

Reece Topley gets to his feet but is moving gingerly.

In the meantime the umpires have decided this rain is a bit too heavy.

  9. 6 runs

    WI 33-3published at 4.3 overs

Rain is swirling down at the Kensington Oval but we're playing on for now.

Rovman Powell edges the first ball for four before heaving a six over the leg side.

Worryingly Reece Topley has landed awkwardly and his flat on his back on the pitch.

That's the fourth time in Saqib Mahmood's T20 career that he's dismissed both openers - but it's the first time he's done it for his country.

  11. WI 23-3published at 4 overs

Saqib Mahmood, heart pumping and blood racing, goes in search of the inswinger to end the over and gets it wrong. Nicholas Pooran manages to flick it down to fine leg for four.

  12. WI 18-3published at 3.4 overs

    Ooooo.

Rovman Powell drives into the covers.

Not this time for the hattie.

Saqib Mahmood is on a hat-trick! The Lancashire quick is running all over the shop with a beaming smile.

New batter Shimron Hetmyer pushes forward and gets a thin edge through to wicketkeeper Phil Salt.

    Lewis c Bethell b Mahmood 13 (WI 18-2)

    Saqib Mahmood has another!

Evin Lewis has just whipped the ball off his pads to Jacob Bethell at deep square leg. It's not the prettiest dismissal but Mahmood does not care.

  18. Not outpublished at 20:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

It has pitched outside leg stump, although not by a lot.

    England lose an early review.

  19. England reviewpublished at 3.1 overs

Here's the first test for Jos Buttler the outfielding-captain.

Saqib Mahmood hits Nicholas Pooran on the pad. Keeper Phil Salt likes it.

    Buttler is persuaded to review.

Nicholas Pooran is known as an ultra-aggressive batter, who made his name down the order - but recently he's made No.3 his home. Before the start of last year he'd batted there 33 times, but since then he's done it 47 times.
