  1. WI 17-1published at 3 overs

This is the same pitch they played the third T20 on the other night. That one started off a little tricky and then flattened out under lights.

England will be hoping for similar although Evin Lewis ends this over by crunching a four down the ground.

Having spent so much time in commentary box with Saqib Mahmood, when he was out for too long, it’s so good to see him back in an England shirt and finding an important early breakthrough.

  3. WI 11-1published at 2 overs

A lovely comeback from Saqib Mahmood, having been hit for four to begin that over.

The very dangerous Nicholas Pooran has joined Evin Lewis in the middle.

    King c Overton b Mahmood 3 (WI 11-1)

Gone this time! Brandon King racked up a superb century in the third ODI but this time chips a drive straight into Jamie Overton's big hands at extra cover.

Saqib Mahmood has an early wicket.

England will be erring on the full side against Evin Lewis. He is exceptionally brutal against the short ball - in T20s, he strikes at 245 playing the pull shot.

  6. WI 10-0published at 1.2 overs

Saqib Mahmood's first ball is driven for four by left-hander Evin Lewis.

His opening partner Brandon King had to retire hurt when these two teams met during the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

  7. WI 4-0published at 1 over

It's a quiet start with only four singles coming from Topley's opening over.

Jos Buttler watches it all from his fielding position at mid-off as we have said.

At least his gloveless hands won't be getting cold in the Caribbean heat.

  8. WI 0-0published at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

That makes England's decision to chase look a little curious but Jos Buttler reckons there's moisture in this surface after rain overnight. That should assist the new ball.

Reece Topley has the ball in hand...

There's a strong bat first bias here in Barbados. In the 15 T20Is played at Kensington Oval since the start of 2022, only five have been won by the chasing side.

West Indies have most of their big guns available for this T20 series.

Andre 'Dre Russ' Russell returns, as does batter Nicholas Pooran and captain Rovman Powell.

That trio sat out the ODI matches.

There is no Alzarri Joseph, however. He has been suspended for two matches for that bizarre, on-field argument with skipper Shai Hope during the third T20.

England's XI tonight has nine legitimate bowling options - only two of the team, Buttler and Salt, don't have a T20 wicket. The most bowlers England have ever used in a T20 international is seven - perhaps we'll see a record fall tonight in Barbados.

Word from the England camp is Jofra Archer is only resting today.

That noise you can hear is Rob Key, Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum and thousands of England fans breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Jos Buttler has only batted at number three once in T20s for England.

He has done it 14 times in all T20 cricket and averages 33 with a strike-rate of 144 and a high score of 70.

That average is a bit below his average as an opener (41) but still pretty good.

  14. Buttler feared the sack after World Cup exitpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

Jos Buttler says he is determined to lead England's white-ball sides into the "next era" after fearing he would be stripped of the captaincy this year.

Matthew Mott was sacked as white-ball head coach in July after England failed to defend either of the limited-over World Cups.

Buttler has not played since June because of a calf injury and said he "absolutely" felt he could have been sacked as captain by managing director of men's cricket Rob Key.

"But Keysy believed I could lead the team forward and captain into the future," he said.

"I had some good conversations with him and I said I didn't want to be doing it because I'm the only person to do it, I want to be doing it because I'm the right person to do it."

  15. To keep or not to keep - Buttler makes big decisionpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

It has been confirmed that Jos Buttler will not keep wicket during this series, with Phil Salt instead taking the gloves.

It is a big decision that has been hanging over Buttler for a while. He thinks it will help him offer more as a captain by standing at mid-off next to his bowlers.

Before the series I looked at some of the reasons involved in the decision. Have a read below.

Buttler's big decision - to keep or not to keep

West Indies captain Rovman Powell: "Whether you bat or bowl first you have to do it well. If we won the toss we would have done the same as England.

"In the years gone by we were just trying to compete. Now we are trying to win bilateral series. When you do that you go into ICC tournaments with confidence."

  17. Postpublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2024

England captain Jos Buttler: "Just feels like there might be an advantage to chase and after a lot of rain yesterday, there might be a bit of moisture in the pitch early on.

"Good to be back [after injury], really excited to get back in the middle and play some cricket."

On giving up the keeping gloves: "Looking forward to it. It's a different viewpoint, another thing taken off my plate so I can focus on the captaincy and be closer to the bowlers.

"We're excited to come up a good West Indies side with experience in T20 cricket, looking forward to some fun games."

We'll have the full teams for you in a second but Jos Buttler says there's no Jofra Archer today.

We'll try and find out more there.

Interestingly England have Buttler as batting at number three in the line up they have given with Will Jacks and Phil Salt opening.
