Summary

  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 27 July

    McKenzie c Smith b Atkinson 8 (WI 22-2)

This time it is a scrambled seam from Atkinson. McKenzie feathers behind and doesn't even look back. Instead, he glares at beyond point for a few seconds and then makes his way off. Not been an easy ride for Kirk in this series.

Atkinson now has 21 Test wickets. He only made his debut a few weeks ago at Lord's, remember.

That should have been held. He's asking himself how we let that go by. He genuinely can't believe it.

  3. WI 19-1published at 5 overs

I'm still in shock. How is Louis still out there?

    Unbelievable, Jeff.

  4. dropped catch

Dropped catch - Ben Stokes shells onepublished at 4.3 overs

Mikyle Louis drills Chris Woakes virtually straight at Ben Stokes. Not much to say other than that it should have been taken.

  5. WI 16-1published at 4.2 overs

Mikyle Louis meet Marnus Labuschagne. Marnus Labuschagne meet Mikyle Louis. What a leave.

  6. WI 13-1published at 4 overs

That will give Kirk McKenzie a little boost. Just a touch of width from Atkinson and the left-hander crunches one past point. Shot.

  7. WI 12-1published at 3.3 overs

Kirk McKenzie keen to get off strike, me thinks. He's not got to grips with Gus Atkinson's wobble seam yet.

  8. WI 9-1published at 3 overs

Edgbaston bathed in glorious sunshine, and they are watching some glorious bowling from Chris Woakes.

Chris Woakes is making it talk at the moment. He's getting it to seam and nibble both ways. It is beautiful bowling, he's got it on a string.

  10. West Indies 8-1published at 2.2 overs

My word that is close. Woakes almost has two. Inside edge from Mikyle Louis and it races away from four.

  11. WI 2-1published at 2 overs

Decent start from Atkinson, too. Doesn't get a wicket but does square Kirk McKenzie up with the over's last ball.

There is an air of inevitability about this...

You don't want to say it but after what happened at Trent Bridge it is hard not to think it.

That is a beautiful piece of bowling by Chris Woakes. He knows this ground and pitch so well.

    It was a beauty.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1 over

    Brathwaite b Woakes 0 (WI 0-1)

    Got him. Beauty.

That's exactly the start the West Indies wanted to avoid. Captain Kraigg Braithwaite has been done by an absolute corker from Woakes.

Two balls earlier, the entire England team had hands on heads when Woakes moved one back at Brathwaite. The batter left it alone and his off-stump only just remained in tact.

This time, Brathwaite did play at it, but he was dialling the wrong line.

This pitch has got slower, slower and slower.

Sometimes the sun can make it harder and quicker but this time it has just sucked the life out of it.

  16. Postpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 27 July

Hmmmm, a couple of looseners from Woakes. Definitely not a pitch that falls into "quick" category.

Right then, here we go. Let the fun (re)commence.

Chris Woakes has the new nugget in hand, thus proving the rumours of a minor injury very much false.

  18. A power hour...published at 17:46 British Summer Time 27 July

For those of you asking, scheduled close - owing to the smattering of showers that straddled tea - is 18:21 BST. The extra half hour we are allowed takes us to 18:51 BST. And that means England will have pretty much exactly an hour at the West Indies tonight #cruciallasthour
