Do you have a little trepidation about this hour, Carlos?

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 27 July

    Atkinson c b A Joseph 21 (ENG 376 all out)

Atkinson looks to make it back-to-back-to-back sixes (not sure that is possible, come to think of it) but mistimes his shot. He is caught at mid-on by Gudakesh Motie, giving Alzarri Joseph his fourth wicket of the innings.

And that is England all done, a lead of 94 runs. From 54-5 that is a very good effort.

Alzarri Joseph is staring at his opposite number.

Gus Atkinson will be very pleased with that.

  4. Eng 376-9published at 75.3 overs

Gus Atkinson steps inside of not one, but two, Alzarri Joseph deliveries and hooks him for a pair of sixes.

Whatever happened to full and straight...

  5. Woakes wizardry...published at 17:38 British Summer Time 27 July

  6. Eng 364-9published at 75 overs

Almost the end for England. Almost, but not quite.

  7. Not outpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 27 July

Bashir is well short of his ground but Joshua Da Silva was unable to gather cleanly. Bashir lives to face another ball.

  8. Umpire reviewpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 27 July

Bashir scrambling through for a single. Has he made it?

  9. Eng 363-9published at 74 overs

Bashir had no idea where that ball had gone. Alzarri Joseph fizzed in a half-tracker and Bashir, to his credit, took it on. The ball ended up looping over Jason Holder, and Gus Atkinson turned down the single.

Jamie Smith is back in his whites already and has his keeping kit on. What happened to a bit of faith eh Jamie?

Shoaib Bashir time. I remember him whacking a few sixes down at Taunton just over a year ago. James Rew was at the other end approaching a maiden double-hundred - Rew said afterwards he nearly lost concentration because he was laughing so hard at Bashir. The pair are close pals, and everything the off-spinner does is funny, apparently. He is sooooo easy to love.

That was a fine hand from Chris Woakes. He's played his part in steering England into a lead.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 27 July

    Woakes c Brathwaite b A Joseph 62 (Eng 363-9)

Alzarri Joseph came around to wicket to Woakes, clearly intending to dig it in. And so Woakes ran at the bowler, gave himself some room, and flashed hard. Alas, he managed to ping it straight to Kraigg Brathwaite at cover.

  13. Look away now Jamie Smith fans...published at 17:27 British Summer Time 27 July

Here is a look at his demise for a fine, fine 95.

  14. Eng 359-8published at 73 overs

Now that last ball should not have been a single to point. As Carlos Brathwaite rightly flags, if you aren't on the boundary, you should be saving one.

  15. Postpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 27 July

Four half-centuries for England in this innings (so far) - Root, Stokes, Smith and Woakes - all of which have come in under 70 balls. No messing around these days, is there?!

  16. Eng 358-8published at 72 overs

Magic shot from the Wizard off the penultimate ball of the over. He rises with the bounce and drives it off the back-foot to the boundary. 11 off those six balls in total.

  17. 50 runs

50 for Chris Woakespublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 27 July

A pair of twos and Chris Woakes reaches 50 on his home ground. He's a popular man in these parts. It's been three years since his last Test half-century, but he's batted well today. 65 balls to get there.

  18. Eng 347-8published at 71 overs

Gus Atkinson that is a lovely stroke to find the cover boundary. He's only been in two minutes but is eight off eight already!

  19. Postpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 27 July

Smith has spent the last five minutes stood at the back of the dressing room receiving the congratulations of his teammates and, presumably, thinking "if only". If only that ball had got up. If only Joseph had overstepped. If only, if only, if only...

    He's now disappeared for a well-earned shower.

  20. Eng 341-8published at 70 overs

Almost a second in the over for Joseph. Woakes is squared up but a leading edge falls safe.

By the way, Gus Atkinson, Smith's Surrey colleague, is the new batter.
