There's been some positive running from India.

  2. Ind 344-6published at 88 overs

    Lead by 350

Shardul Thakur leaves Chris Woakes' first delivery, seeing the ball whistle just past his stumps.

The all-rounder nearly loses his wicket again later in the over as Jadeja hurries through a single to mid-wicket and Shoaib Bashir runs round and shies at the stumps - just a tad wide, but he only had one stump to aim at.

A further Jadeja single into the leg side takes India's lead to 350.

So much negativity from England fans? It's two great red ball teams, posting pretty equal scores! The pitch isn't going to change that much overnight, and there is no shame in a draw against this India side. We could get bowled out for 200 and then I will allow TMS to mock me. But I think it's a draw.

India have been fantastic here today. Hung in there in the morning and have accelerated a bit in the afternoon. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant really put in a shift.

I don't think it's a bad thing if India get bowled out. They can make use of Jasprit Bumrah.

  5. Ind 340-6published at 87 overs

Shardul Thakur is the new batter, coming out to join Ravindra Jadeja, who's on one.

The pair work four singles off Brydon Carse's over, while the England seamer's no ball adds to India's total.

Not much to get excited about in Jofra Archer's third and probably final spell of the day up in Chester-le-Street. There was an edge short of the keeper but Archer looked a little down on pace as he bowled four overs for nine runs and no wickets.

His figures for the day sit at 14 overs 1-28. He's currently fielding with his jumper tied around his waist and that might be that until tomorrow.

Durham are 179-4 on a slow pitch.

  7. Postpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time

KL Rahul walked off the field with 137 - that's 79 more runs than if Harry Brook had held onto this chance.

But as I've said before, had India held their catches then England's total would have been considerably lower.

Prakash said earlier that Karun Nair didn't look very committed to his shots and that was his downfall there, just a little poke.

If England can keep this up, they'll have an hour out there with the bat.

Karun Nair is standing there as if he can't believe it. That was all very anti-climactic, he's hit it straight back at Chris Woakes.

    And now Karun Nair goes!

The middle-order batter drives the last delivery of the over straight back at Chris Woakes and the England seamer takes the catch with relative ease.

Nair can't believe it, he stares incredulously at the pitch.

Ravindra Jadeja comes in at number seven for India.

Carse strikes him on the pad with his penultimate delivery and appeals to the umpire, who is motionless, while Jadeja runs a leg bye.

KL Rahul really dug in against what was some really good English bowling. He's done exactly what Shubman Gill would've wanted him to do and has set his team up nicely.

KL Rahul's excellent innings come to an end. That's a bit of a sad end to what's been a beautiful innings. He's played some lovely strokes, a real pleasure to watch.

He made sure India had no slip-ups here today and has got them in a really strong position.

Carse bowls Rahul to end 'beautiful' innings

Brydon Carse gets another chop-on wicket!

After dismissing Shubman Gill with the seventh ball this morning, the England seamer sees KL Rahul inside edge onto his middle stump, pitching it backwards.

The end to an excellent 247-ball innings from Rahul, who walks off to applause from the Headingley crowd.

KL Rahul has really gone through the gears today. He didn't play any risky shots early on and has just played the situation really. He's just ground England into dust. There was that once chance but otherwise, he's not really given England a window to take him.

You could see his disappointment in the first innings but he's really done a job here today.

  17. Ind 331-4published at 84 overs

Karun Nair takes a first ball single off Woakes to give KL Rahul some strike.

The opener drops onto the back foot and sends the final delivery of the over through third for four.

I couldn't think of a better player to go out there and bowl for half an hour than Jasprit Bumrah.

I truly believe that he would be able to take a few wickets.

I think India can't base their decision on the weather. In this country it's too unpredictable. They might as well stick around to get 400 plus.

400 and above is what India should be looking at. They'll be looking at getting an many runs as possible instead of trying to face England today. This is quite a young side.
