KL Rahul really dug in against what was some really good English bowling. He's done exactly what Shubman Gill would've wanted him to do and has set his team up nicely.

KL Rahul's excellent innings come to an end. That's a bit of a sad end to what's been a beautiful innings. He's played some lovely strokes, a real pleasure to watch.

He made sure India had no slip-ups here today and has got them in a really strong position.

    KL Rahul b Carse 137 (Ind 333-5)

Brydon Carse gets another chop-on wicket!

After dismissing Shubman Gill with the seventh ball this morning, the England seamer sees KL Rahul inside edge onto his middle stump, pitching it backwards.

The end to an excellent 247-ball innings from Rahul, who walks off to applause from the Headingley crowd.

KL Rahul has really gone through the gears today. He didn't play any risky shots early on and has just played the situation really. He's just ground England into dust. There was that once chance but otherwise, he's not really given England a window to take him.

You could see his disappointment in the first innings but he's really done a job here today.

  5. Ind 331-4published at 84 overs

Karun Nair takes a first ball single off Woakes to give KL Rahul some strike.

The opener drops onto the back foot and sends the final delivery of the over through third for four.

I couldn't think of a better player to go out there and bowl for half an hour than Jasprit Bumrah.

I truly believe that he would be able to take a few wickets.

I think India can't base their decision on the weather. In this country it's too unpredictable. They might as well stick around to get 400 plus.

400 and above is what India should be looking at. They'll be looking at getting an many runs as possible instead of trying to face England today. This is quite a young side.

  9. Ind 326-4published at 83 overs

Four for Karun Nair, going after a delivery with a bit of width from Carse and sending the ball flying way over Ben Duckett at gully.

He retains the strike with a single from Carse's final ball - Nair has faced all but one delivery since the new ball arrived.

India playing for the draw makes sense. Give the batters as long as they want in the middle to get practice in and get used to the conditions, protect Bumrah from any unnecessary overs. And after all that you’ve draw the first match of an overseas series which you were slight underdogs in. Great outcome for them.

It's all up to India now I'm afraid. It's however long they fancy having a bowl for tonight. With Jasprit Bumrah up your sleeve, it would be silly not to.

Karun Nair is getting stuck in the crease, he needs to move his feet more. If he doesn't move around a bit he is only going to be poke the ball around.

  13. Ind 321-4published at 82 overs

And Chris Woakes will take the new ball at the other end.

One single from the over, a Nair push to long-off.

India have scored 23 runs in the seven overs since tea.

Couple of quick wickets now and we could have them all out by close. Game on tomorrow?

    Tom, Folkestone

No idea what India are doing here, as they have slowed down, as they should be driving the advantage home, but very indecisive at the moment!

    Adam

I don’t think India can assume that the weather forecast will be correct. They are quite a way off from a safe total if the weather is fine tomorrow.

Karun Nair was in a very good position, his balance was great and timed it perfectly. Full face of the bat, nice drive.

  16. Ind 320-4published at 81 overs

Nicely timed from Karun Nair, sending the hard new ball racing away to the boundary at long-off despite minimal backlift of his bat.

Jofra Archer is back for a third spell at Chester-le-Street and his second delivery is edged just short of wicketkeeper John Simpson.

He has figures of 1-23 from 11 overs and bowled very nicely in the afternoon, given this is his first red-ball match for four years.

  18. How's stat?!published at 16:26 British Summer Time 23 June

    Kieran Parmley
    Cricviz analyst

During the second session today, England's quick found just 0.72° of movement on average (0.41° seam + 0.31° swing).

That's the lowest ever for a session in England dating back to 2007.

    Cheteshwar Pujara
India batter on BBC Test Match Special

What is Ben Stokes thinking at the moment? Is he looking for wickets? Is he trying to limit runs? You can't really tell what the plan is at the moment.

From India's point of view, they need to capitalise with the new ball now. If they can get a lot of runs, they might look at declaring.

England will fancy chasing down anything under 400. Wickets have been hard to come by today so India you think would need four sessions to bowl England out. Still anyone's game I reckon.
