400 and above is what India should be looking at. They'll be looking at getting an many runs as possible instead of trying to face England today. This is quite a young side.

  2. Ind 326-4published at 83 overs

Four for Karun Nair, going after a delivery with a bit of width from Carse and sending the ball flying way over Ben Duckett at gully.

He retains the strike with a single from Carse's final ball - Nair has faced all but one delivery since the new ball arrived.

India playing for the draw makes sense. Give the batters as long as they want in the middle to get practice in and get used to the conditions, protect Bumrah from any unnecessary overs. And after all that you’ve draw the first match of an overseas series which you were slight underdogs in. Great outcome for them.

It's all up to India now I'm afraid. It's however long they fancy having a bowl for tonight. With Jasprit Bumrah up your sleeve, it would be silly not to.

Karun Nair is getting stuck in the crease, he needs to move his feet more. If he doesn't move around a bit he is only going to be poke the ball around.

  6. Ind 321-4published at 82 overs

And Chris Woakes will take the new ball at the other end.

One single from the over, a Nair push to long-off.

India have scored 23 runs in the seven overs since tea.

Couple of quick wickets now and we could have them all out by close. Game on tomorrow?

    Tom, Folkestone

No idea what India are doing here, as they have slowed down, as they should be driving the advantage home, but very indecisive at the moment!

    Adam

I don’t think India can assume that the weather forecast will be correct. They are quite a way off from a safe total if the weather is fine tomorrow.

Karun Nair was in a very good position, his balance was great and timed it perfectly. Full face of the bat, nice drive.

  9. Ind 320-4published at 81 overs

Nicely timed from Karun Nair, sending the hard new ball racing away to the boundary at long-off despite minimal backlift of his bat.

Jofra Archer is back for a third spell at Chester-le-Street and his second delivery is edged just short of wicketkeeper John Simpson.

He has figures of 1-23 from 11 overs and bowled very nicely in the afternoon, given this is his first red-ball match for four years.

    Kieran Parmley

During the second session today, England's quick found just 0.72° of movement on average (0.41° seam + 0.31° swing).

That's the lowest ever for a session in England dating back to 2007.

What is Ben Stokes thinking at the moment? Is he looking for wickets? Is he trying to limit runs? You can't really tell what the plan is at the moment.

From India's point of view, they need to capitalise with the new ball now. If they can get a lot of runs, they might look at declaring.

England will fancy chasing down anything under 400. Wickets have been hard to come by today so India you think would need four sessions to bowl England out. Still anyone's game I reckon.

  14. new ball

    Ind 314-4published at 80 overs

Four off the first ball of this over as well, as KL Rahul cuts Shoaib Bashir through point.

A couple more singles and that's 80 overs - England immediately take the new ball, Brydon Carse will be the first to use it.

  15. Ind 308-4published at 79 overs

KL Rahul turns Stokes' first delivery through backward square - it's not cut-off at the boundary and that's four.

A further single extends India's lead to 314.

India batting strangely in my opinion. No intent to get this win knowing that there is a lot of rain forecasted tomorrow.

Shoaib Bashir is getting a little bit more turn out there today.

  18. Ind 303-4published at 78 overs

A single apiece for Nair and Rahul off Bashir's 20th over.

The England spinner has figures of 1-83 in this innings, having gone 1-100 in the first.

  19. How's stat?!published at 16:14 British Summer Time

    Andy Zaltzman
    Test Match Special statistician

There have been five centuries in this game from India, it's the sixth time in Test history that a team has done so. It's the second time that a team has done so in England, the other being by England in 2007 against West Indies at Lord's.

  20. Ind 301-4published at 77 overs

Stokes also resumes at the other end, and KL Rahul brings up India's 300 from his second delivery, pushing into the covers.

Karun Nair then gets his first run of the session, sending the final ball of the over into the leg side to retain the strike.
