Good news may be thin on the ground for England right now but I can bring you a glimmer.

That was a really encouraging six-over afternoon spell from Jofra Archer.

He started with some short stuff to Will Rhodes, pinned Emilio Gay lbw and with his final ball beat the edge of Colin Ackermann's bat with a beauty. He had already had Ackermann edging short of slip earlier in the over.

The spell was six overs, three maidens, 1-8. Archer has 1-19 across his 10 overs in the innings.

Can I suggest that India play Bazball better than England? All the attacking intent but at the right time with a watchful approach at times.

With everyone waiting for the big hit, Rishabh Pant keeps them waiting by just nudging a single to leg.

That's the only run from the Shoaib Bashir over. Pant keeps strike to face... ooh, it's going to be Joe Root.

Is there a cover drive appreciation society? There should be. I love watching Rahul bat. There’s nothing more beautiful than a cover drive during a Test match.

Another over, another boundary for India.

KL Rahul gets it this time, pulling a short ball around the corner to the fence with the fielder in the deep not picking it up until it was too late.

Rishabh Pant on strike to start the next over, still on 95...

I am just very pleased to see Rahul get a hundred. I just think he is one of those men that just doesn't get the recognition. He has become the regular opener.

Pant looked back at the dressing room with a huge grin to see if he might get his century in this over, after he absolutely clouted the ball.

Really good from Rishabh Pant, almost bluffing Shoaib Bashir into thinking he was going to charge then going back and crashing the ball through the covers.

He's up to 95 and on the brink of twin tons in the match.

We can criticise Stokes' captaincy all we want but our bowling has been very poor this Test. Not sure any of the bowlers really carry a threat that hugely concerns India.

Rishabh Pant moves to 90 with a controlled pull shot for one.

This fourth-wicket stand is now worth 151 and, the way things are going, it is just a matter of how big a lead India are comfortable with and how long they want to give themselves to try and bowl England out.

Four more for Rishabh Pant and suddenly he's closing in on another hundred - he's up to 88 now.

The field has spread but he is still able to get a pull shot away fine as Brydon Carse digs on in short.

Jofra Archer has his first first-class wicket in four years!

He had an lbw shout against Emilio Gay turned down in the previous over but gets him in the same fashion this time.

It nipped in just a little and hit the left-hander in front. Archer has 1-15 in his eighth over.

He's beaming with his arms wide too.

Drinks are being taken and it's been a fabulous hour since lunch for India.

Their patience in the morning session gave them the base from which they have well and truly launched from this afternoon.

The lead is now 240 and with seven wickets still to get, England need to find a breakthrough (then another, and another and another) sharpish.

As an India fan I'm feeling very comfortable here. I can't see either of these two getting out in this session, and we'll then be in a good position to really push on. Might even have time to declare and have a bowl at England this evening (Stokes style)!

    Rahul from Bristol

India probably only need around 130 more runs to secure a winning position. England need the rain tomorrow!

KL Rahul has batted brilliantly. He has worked hard to survive.

He is one of the best Test players in the line up. He is grabbing every opportunity when he can.

A brilliant century for KL Rahul.

The opener took his time this morning and has begun to move through the gears since lunch.

He drives handsomely through the covers for two to go to his ninth Test hundred from 202 balls.

An innings that has helped put India in a very good position in this first Test.

They say that fortune favours the brave and that is certainly proving to be the case with Rishabh Pant.

He nearly swings himself off his feet trying to smash Shoaib Bashir down the ground, gets a thick edge but the ball loops over slip and away for four.
