I wouldn't say Wood is getting back to his mark particularly freely. There was a look to Jos Buttler at mid-wicket as he went.

  2. Afg 165-4published at 33.1 overs

Mark Wood's first ball back is 83mph. Pedestrian for his usual standards.

There is a follow through from the England quick but there is a grimace and discomfort in his face afterwards.

  3. Postpublished at 11:26 Greenwich Mean Time

Oh, Mark Wood is going to have a bowl. Let's see how this goes.

England can't really afford to lose his six overs.

Ibraham Zadran has played really nicely at the top of the order.

Here's the best shots from his half-century. He's nearing a century now.

For those just joining us, Mark Wood went off the field with a left knee injury earlier. He is back in the field and is able to bowl again now but hasn't.

He had to do a bit of fielding in this over and mixed signs to be honest. He seemed to move pretty well initially but then he was grimacing after picking the ball up. He's then seen doing some crouching, jumping and bending later in the over as he looks to test the knee out.

    The players will take drinks.

Here's how Adil Rashid picked up the wicket of Hashmatullah Shahidi.

It ended a 103-run stand between Hashmatullah and Ibrahim Zadran.

We haven't seen much spin here today and that will play a massive role in this game, especially later on.

It's certainly gotten easier to bat as the day has gone on.

    Where has that come from?

I was preparing to say that Afghanistan are just nudging and nurdling and having a small rebuild after the wicket.

But Azmatullah Omarzai decides to slog sweep Adil Rashid over wide long-on and pick up six. Lovely strike.

Jos Buttler will be happy with where his team are at. They'll be keeping an eye on Ibrahim Zadran.

Afghanistan will be looking to build around him. They probably need a minimum of 300 runs to challenge England.

  10. Afg 149-4published at 31 overs

Not much there for Jofra Archer in that over to be honest. Five singles and a wide from it.

If you are just joining us here are the three wickets that Jofra Archer picked up in his first spell.

Oh, Simon. You've predicted the future.

Jos Buttler is going for the kill. Jofra Archer, who took three wickets earlier, is back into the attack.

Does Jos Buttler need to look at bringing Mark Wood or Jofra Archer back in to pick up another quick wicket?

  14. Afg 143-4published at 30 overs

Azmatullah Omarzai is the new batter and he's off the mark first ball. Adil Rashid drops a little short and the Afghan batter is able to go deep in his crease and cut out to deep cover for a single.

Just what England needed and just what Jos Buttler would have wanted. He brought his best bowler on to break this partnership that have been dominating the past few overs.

Adil Rashid doing the job once again.

    Hashmatullah b Rashid 40 (Eng 140-4)

I did say Jos Buttler might need to shuffle the pack. He does and it brings the wicket. Who else?

It's not a great shot from Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi to be honest.

He goes to reverse sweep but misses and is bowled round the back of his legs by Adil Rashid.

It ends a 103-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

The one thing that England are missing is the wicket taking. I just don't feel they have the depth and penetration to be effective in these middle overs.

  19. Afg 139-3published at 29 overs

It has largely been Ibrahim Zadran who has put his foot down in the past few overs but here's a sign of intent from Hashmatullah Shahidi.

He uses his feet and is able to hit Joe Root over cover for four and bring up the century partnership.

England are losing a bit of control out there. It makes you wonder which way the game will go.
