Sam Hain ends the season on a unbeaten 153 and Michael Booth has 11.

Nottinghamshire collect 14 points to finish eighth in Division One, just three points and one place below Warwickshire who pick up a match haul of 13 points.

    Happy holidays!

    Yorks 726-7 dec v Northants 147 & 12-0

A bright start for Northants after hard labour in the field yesterday and today.

12 runs come in the opening over, bowled by Jordan Thompson from the Kirkstall Lane End.

Gus Miller drives the second ball through wide mid off for four and gets four more through the same region two balls later.

The last ball of the over is full on leg stump and tapped through wide mid on.

Maiden over from Matt Fisher at the Howard Stand End.

The covers are on at New Road and that is that for the season.

Both sides pick up 11 points for the draw which secures Worcestershire a final position of sixth in Division One.

It's also their highest finishing position in the County Championship finish since the formation of two divisions back in 2000.

And their best finish since third place in 1997.

Lancashire, on the other hand, head home contemplating life in Division Two.

    Durham 360 v Kent 316-8

With the light deteriorating, Joey Evison isn't wasting time and he latches onto a ball outside off stump from Chemar Holder, creaming it to the boundary.

That takes Evison to 50 from 67 balls and it's the Kent all-rounder's sixth of the campaign and third in the last four games. Which is no mean feat in a relegated side.

  6. 100 runs

100 for James Colespublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Sussex 402-4 v Middlesex 271

    Luke Hollman to James Coles...

Clipped through mid wicket for two!

His fourth career century and his first this summer!

120 balls with seven fours and four sixes. Well played.

  7. Sussex reach 400published at 15:40 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Sussex 400-4 v Middlesex 271

Mark Stoneman bowls to James Coles, who glances the ball to fine leg for one to reach 98 and that also takes Sussex to 400 in the 98th over of the innings.

  8. wicket

WICKET: Stewart c Lees b Holder 40published at 15:39 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Durham 360 v Kent 311-8

Grant Stewart misses out on what would have been his first - and last - half-century of the season.

Chemar Holder digs one in short, Stewart's eyes light up and he top-edges it to mid-on where Alex Lees gives some of his team-mates a lesson in how to judge a skyer perfectly.

  9. Final session at Headingley and Yorkshire declarepublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Yorks 726-7 dec v Northants 147 & 0-0

Yes. Yorkshire have declared! The lead is 579 and we have potentially 35 overs left in the match.

Krish Patel is promoted up the order to open the innings with Gus Miller and Miller will face Jordan Thompson to start the final session of 2024.

  10. Play resumes at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 361-7

With the game tailing off into a draw, we're likely to have just one more hour of play left of the season at Trent Bridge.

Sam Hain resumes on 151 alongside Michael Booth who has one.

The lesser-spotted slow bowling of Ben Slater opens after tea. Hain trots through for a single off the last ball.

There's an end-of-term feel in Nottingham.

  11. Final session begins at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Durham 360 v Kent 310-7

The floodlights are on as the players return for what is unlikely to be more than an hour's play - if that.

Kent pair Joey Evison and Grant Stewart both eyeing 50s before the curtain falls on the 2024 season.

  12. Final session begins at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Essex 508-8 dec v Surrey 233-7

Surrey will be presented, or reacquainted you might say, with the County Championship trophy once this match is finished - which could well be in just under an hour's time.

Josh Blake will be keen to try and mark his first-class debut with 50 before that happens, although Surrey have only three wickets intact.

  13. Bad light stops playpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Worcs 180 & 223-9 v Lancs 177

It's got a bit gloomy at New Road and the umpires are leading the players off.

The players drop back and allow Joe Leach the honour of leading the teams off in his final match. He goes to tea unbeaten on 30.

It's tea but that might well be that for the day. Heavy rain appears to be heading this way from the Malverns.

  14. Final session starts at Hove as Coles nears centurypublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Sussex 385-4 v Middlesex 271

Sussex lead by 114 runs and bar something extraordinary, this game will end in a draw.

Sussex will have a trophy presentation later on today and will of course play in Division One next summer.

James Coles is just 12 runs off what would be a deserved first century of the season and fourth of his career.

He'll face the very occasional off spin bowling of Mark Stoneman to start the session.

Sussex captain John Simpson is 57 not out.

  15. Postpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Worcs 180 & 223-9 v Lancs 177

Anderson Phillip is scenting a second five-wicket haul in this match and runs in for his 18th over.

Jack Home takes on the short ball but doesn't quite connect and it bounces down to Will Williams at fine leg.

Joe Leach looks to uppercut another short ball but misses altogether as the ball zips through to wicketkeeper Matty Hurst.

Leach drops into the legside for a single. Phillip will have to wait a while longer.

  16. Fun time for departing Leachpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Worcs 180 & 221-9 v Lancs 177

Jack Home picks up a couple off Anderson Phillip to get off the mark.

With the final wicket pair at the crease, we're playing past the scheduled tea time.

Joe Leach clips George Balderson through midwicket for two and then punches a drive square for two more.

A mighty pull to the midwicket boundary brings the departing seamer four more. He goes to 29 off just 23 balls.

  17. Tea at Leicestershirepublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Leics 280 v Derbys 193-3

Not too much riding on this one, apart from a bit of local pride.

Wayne Madsen goes to tea on 57.

It's been another good season for Madsen. He's 43 away from reaching his century and 1,000 County Championship runs in 2024.

  18. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 361-7

Sam Hain picks up a single from Rob Lord to move to 151 before Michael Booth plays out four dots - and that's tea.

The afternoon session has belonged to Hain who has moved past his highest score of the season as the game drifts towards its inevitable drawn conclusion.

  19. Tea at Hovepublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Sussex 385-4 v Middlesex 271

Not quite champagne yet. Not for the Sussex players anyway, who secured the Division Two title just after lunch when they passed 250.

James Coles is 88 not out.

His captain and batting partner John Simpson has 57.

  20. Tea at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Durham 360 v Kent 310-7

Grant Stewart is doing his best to win the race to 50 with team-mate Joey Evison - he pulled James Minto for another boundary in the final over before tea and has reached 39 not out.

Evison, at the other end, is 47 not out and both players will be aiming to chalk off those half-centuries before the inevitable captains' handshakes take place.
