    Essex 508-8 dec v Surrey 233-7

Josh Blake has batted nicely on his first-class debut and he goes to the interval - the last of this County Championship season - on 33.

Tom Lawes is alongside him, with eight to his name.

  3. wicket

WICKET van Beek c Bell b Phillip 44published at 15:11 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Worcs 180 & 211-9 v Lancs 177

Logan van Beek falls in the forties for the second time in the match.

Anderson Phillip continues with the short stuff and this time has his man.

The Dutch batter looks to hook and instead top edges high into the sky to George Bell at mid-on.

That's a fourth wicket of the innings and a ninth in the match for the Trinidadian.

  4. 150 runs

150 for Sam Hainpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 360-7

Warwickshire were in a spot of bother at 6-2 when Sam Hain came to the crease on Saturday afternoon.

A leading edge off Lyndon James and a highly risky single - which almost proved curtains for Michael Booth - brings Hain his 150 from 266 balls.

A superb innings of concentration and patience has salvaged a draw for the Bears.

  5. 50 runs

50 partnership for Evison and Stewartpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Durham 360 v Kent 304-7

Another bonus point to the Kent tally, with Grant Stewart pumping Callum Parkinson down the ground for another boundary to bring up his 50 partnership with Joey Evison.

Kent might have time for another batting point before they finish here - and they'll definitely be collecting eight of them for the draw as well.

  6. 50 runs

50 for Jordan Thompsonpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Yorks 720-7 v Northants 147

His second 50 of the season.

43 balls with three fours and this fourth six down the ground off the bowling of spinner Fateh Singh.

This is now the highest innings score against Northants.

  7. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Worcs 180 & 207-8 v Lancs 177

Joe Leach steps to the leg side gives himself room and slogs Anderson Phillip into the legside.

The ball beats George Balderson's despairing chase to the rope. Leach goes to 18 in quick time.

A draw looks more and more inevitable.

  8. 50 runs

50 for George Hillpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Yorks 713-7 v Northants 147

    61 balls with six fours.

His fourth 50 of a solid season in which he also has one hundred.

He reaches 50 with a neat drive to long on for a single off Saif Zaib.

  9. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Yorks 708-7 v Northants 147

Jordan Thompson gets away with a flashing drive rooted to the crease off Fateh Singh, edging the ball past the keeper for four - and now that is the outright second highest innings total for Yorkshire in first-class cricket.

  10. 50 runs

50 for John Simpsonpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Sussex 356-4 v Middlesex 271

The Sussex captain picks up his fourth 50 of a very fine season which has also seen him score five centuries and more than 1,100 runs, playing his part in a very successful campaign.

He reaches this 50 in 95 balls with three fours and two sixes with a single going forward to scoop to mid on off the bowling of the left-arm spin Leus du Plooy.

  11. 200 runs

200 up for Worcestershirepublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Worcs 180 & 200-8 v Lancs 177

Joe Leach is not going quietly into the night and helps himself to a couple of fours off Anderson Phillip to move to 11.

Logan van Beek then slices the ball down to long leg - not the intended part of New Road - and takes two to bring up the 200 for the Pears.

A fine recovery from a highly precarious 78-6 at lunch.

  12. Yorkshire pass 700 in record breaking inningspublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Yorks 704-7 v Northants 147

Four runs for Jordan Thompson, working the ball from Fateh Singh off his hip to leg for four.

He's forward to loft a ball outside off over long on for six to take the Tykes beyond 700, equalling their second highest first innings score which was 704 at the Oval in 1899.

Their highest ever total is 887 at Edgbaston in 1896!

I doubt we'll get there. But you never know.

  13. dropped catch

Dropped catch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Durham 360 v Kent 290-7

Durham will be pleased with their season as a whole, as a comfortable mid-table finish beckons, but they might want to pencil in some catching practice for the winter.

We've seen a few routine catches shelled today and another one goes down as Grant Stewart swings and top-edges to Ben McKinney, who appears to have the catch under control - and then doesn't.

Callum Parkinson misses out on what should have been a straightforward wicket.

  14. wicket

WICKET Briggs c sub (Hayes) b Lord 0published at 14:55 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 355-7

Rob Lord bangs one in short and Danny Briggs plops it square to sub fielder James Hayes who takes a simple catch.

A half-hearted stroke to put it mildly, but a first wicket for Lord.

    Michael Booth is in.

  15. Sussex pass 350published at 14:54 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Sussex 352-4 v Middlesex 271

James Coles is forward on bended knee to Leus du Plooy, slog sweeping the left-arm spinner over mid wicket for six runs.

The Sussex 350 and an academic (as far as the campaign is concerned) third batting point is secured in 89 overs.

  16. Postpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Worcs 180 & 189-8 v Lancs 177

Tom Bailey strays down the leg side and Logan van Beek twirls around and helps the ball on its way to the fine leg boundary.

After the umpires are finally persuaded to change the ball and the Dutchman clips a single off his legs for a single to go to 40.

Joe Leach drives straight down the ground but Bailey gets a good hand on it to make the stop. Some would say a drop.

The beautiful sound of the Worcester Cathedral bells spring into life and fill the air.

  17. Raining sixespublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Yorks 685-7 v Northants 147

No doubt Northants will be looking forward to the end of this innings.

Jordan Thompson is forward to Saiz Zaib, lofting the left-arm spinner down the ground and over Justin Broad at long on for six.

Just the 16 sixes in this innings!

  18. Postpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 355-6

Lyndon James slides one past the edge of Sam Hain's bat and then tucks him up and strikes him on the pad.

He needs four more for his 150. One of the few things to get excited about as we drift towards tea.

    Maiden.

  19. 6 runs

Simpson goes bigpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Sussex 344-4 v Middlesex 271

John Simpson moves to 45 with a slog sweep six over square off the bowling of Josh de Caires.

    Sussex are batting serenely.

    Leicestershire 280 v Derbyshire 164-3

David Lloyd celebrates scoring fiftyImage source, Rex Features

Like most of our games on this final day of the season, things are drifting to a draw at the Uptonsteel County Ground.

Not much you can do about the weather at the end of September... or most of the summer in the UK.

Derbyshire captain David Lloyd ended his campaign with 73, but he'll be disappointed with his side's performance this year.

They'll finish bottom of Division Two.
