Pant looked to reverse sweep to a man bowling almost 90mph, and he's cross with himself that it's not gone quite how he wanted.

  3. Ind 174-3published at 58 overs

Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant content to clip Jofra Archer, bowling round the wicket, off their heels for singles.

A fraction shorter from Archer with the fourth ball of his over and Pant slog sweeps off the front foot for four.

Next ball Pant attempts an audacious reverse lap outside leg stump.

    Peak Pant.

350 looked doable but as they say, add two wickets and then see how easy it is.

  8. Ind 164-3published at 56.4 overs

    A bit of chaos.

Sai Sudharsan dabs Brydon Carse and sets off for a single but is sent back by Rishabh Pant at the non-striker's end.

Sudharsan ends up accidentally knocking his bat out of his hand as he turns to get back in his ground and makes it just in time following a shy by Ben Stokes.

You're better off having Sai Sudharsan trying to come forward rather than playing off the back foot because he's so straight in his stance.

That was a lovely length again from Jofra Archer. Just that little bit of fade away, it was in swing really, beautiful bit of seam. It's done a bit too much really.

  11. Ind 163-3published at 56 overs

Jofra Archer presents a seam position to Sai Sudharsan so aesthetically pleasing it should be painted and hung in the Louvre.

It swings sway from the edge of the left-hander's bat and carries through to Jamie Smith.

A couple of balls later and Archer goes short but Sudharsan whips him away for four through mid-wicket.

Since the start of this session, there has been more of a sense of urgency when running between the wickets.

  13. Ind 158-3published at 55 overs

Brydon Carse is thundering into the crease, but Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant play out a measured over picking up a single apiece.

In the cordon, Joe Root is nodding approvingly at something Jamie Smith has said.

I had said 20 minutes or so we might not get to the end of the day without bad light being a factor and the gloom has certainly got gloomier in the past five minutes.

There are four shadows from the floodlights around Jofra Archer as he runs in. I wonder how long this style of bowling will be allowed to last.

Brydon Carse definitely didn't see the ball coming towards him then. Jofra Archer doesn't look happy but they should've switched the lights on at tea.

Rishabh Pant manages to control a hook to Jofra Archer first up for single. He tells the umpire he was struggling to see it while chuckling away.

The poor visibility affects Brydon Carse down at deep third next ball as Sai Sudharsan hooks a bumper which the Durham seamer picks up late and it runs away for four.

  17. Ind 150-3published at 53 overs

Four dots follow that Rishabh Pant single as Sai Sudharsan starts in a decidedly more circumspect manner.

Jofra Archer has ball in a hand and is top of his mark. Pant on strike.

The floodlights are flickering into life.

Rishabh Pant doing Rishabh Pant things.

First ball after tea and Pant dances down the pitch and has a one-handed swipe to a delivery from Brydon Carse.

It comes off the toe of the bat and India run an eventful single.

England's players are back out on the field. Brydon Carse will bowl the first over after tea.

Very dark at Old Trafford at the moment.
