I can hear the mentions of Ben Foakes marching towards social media. Bar a missed stumping at Headingley, Smith had had a very good series with the gloves. He was excellent standing up to the seamers at Lord's. That's a very bad miss. He got himself into an awful position, feet in a huge tangle.

There wasn’t much but Ben Stokes just gave Jamie Smith a gentle tap on the back at the end of the over.

    Ben Stokes is bowling beautifully.

  9. Ind 139-2published at 48 overs

Sudharsan defends two of Stokes' remaining deliveries, leaves the other one.

We've got just over 15 minutes until tea.

Jamie Smith has been very solid behind the stumps his whole Test career. He barely even got a mitt on it, maybe it's swung back on him.

  11. dropped catch

Sudharsan dropped on 20published at 47.3 overs

Did Sai Sudharsan get any bat on that?

    He did!

The India number three tries to clip Ben Stokes away behind square, gets a bit of a nick on it and Jamie Smith completely misjudges it diving down the leg side, with the ball striking his chest.

All is calm in the temporary stand at the moment. The occasional burst from the trumpeter brings the England fans to life but otherwise things are sedate. Fancy dress is at a minimum today.

Re Ruth @ 15:03: If you haven't eaten a cucumber whole before I'd recommend it! I first saw it when a Kiwi overseas came back from a post match night out and polished off a whole one with a few swigs from a 4 pint bottle of milk. It makes you feel a little like a caveman.

It was almost like Ben Stokes might fly and catch that one. A relief for India.

  15. Ind 138-2published at 47 overs

Just clear of Ben Stokes at mid-on!

Shubman Gill advances to the final delivery of Liam Dawson's over and tries to loft the spinner well clear of England's captain.

He doesn't quite get hold of it, but it's just enough to beat the diving Stokes, with the ball racing away for four.

We were inundated with messages from cricket fans this morning who faced a long wait to get into Old Trafford for the start of today's match.

Many spectators told how they had missed the start of play, with Andrew from Marple, Stockport, saying the match-day organisation needed a "radical overhaul", while Kevin Ticehurst said the queue to get in was "five miles long in either direction".

Lancashire County Cricket Club has apologised and said it would be looking at increasing the number of gates for the rest of the match, but also pointed out thousands of fans had arrived "very late".

A club representative said: "We are aware that some supporters experienced queues this morning, which we apologise for.

"We saw nearly 9,000 supporters arrive at the ground very late despite encouraging early arrival, with all bags subject to searches on entry. The club will be looking at increasing the number of gates."

I was just waiting for that shot by Sai Sudharsan where he just punches it. He's played within himself but has some beautiful strokes.

There was a bit of umph in that shot. It's his power that really impresses me, hopefully we'll see some more of that today.

  20. Ind 131-2published at 45 overs

Just a secondary boundary for Sai Sudharsan, lashing Liam Dawson's wide-ish delivery through the covers.

Three dot balls follow, the India number three is on 18 from 54 deliveries.
