So, I told you about Liam Dawson getting a call from my kids on the Alexa (14:57). Well, our good friends at CricViz have done some number crunching to see how Dawson has done in first-class cricket since that call on 18 August 2023.

    Drum roll...

He averages 54 with the bat, including six hundreds, and he's taken 97 wickets at 27.6 with the ball.

If any other cricketers want Leo to call them, let me know.

That third wicket makes it the third time I've been called into a meeting today, abandoning the radio coverage, to discover another breakthrough on my return. Currently I'm checking my team's calendar to schedule another...

Response from Lancs cricket is outrageous! We arrived at 10.15 and still missed the start of play. How early do they want us there?

    Anon

Really poor response from Lancs CC blaming fans arriving late. Disgraceful and typical of the modern way of treating paying customers at sporting events, when the level of service falls well below what should be expected. Another shameful example of deflected victimhood from an organisation when they’re called out for poor service.

John, listening in Shropshire without bag searches or delays.

Lancashire Cricket claiming today's queue problems were to do with people arriving "very late" is an insult to all those affected. They should take responsibility for their poor system and planning not try and shift the blame.

Time for me to head off from some birthday cake - it's been a pleasure.

Here's Timothy Abraham to take you through the evening session.

You'd say that that was England's session.

Ben Stokes is a commentators nightmare because there's no standard field placings with him.

  7. Ind 149-3published at 52 overs

    Sudharsan 26, Pant 3

Sai Sudharsan takes a single from the first ball of Ben Stokes' over, pulling behind square.

Rishabh Pant hurries through another single, and that's tea.

26 overs in this session, just like the morning one. But India were 71-3 from this one, having reached 78-0 at lunch.

England will be happy with their afternoon's work.

Rishabh Pant has been dominant against left arm orthodox spin, he averages 88 against it.

Liam Dawson is constantly tinkering his field, something Shoaib Bashir never does.

  10. Ind 147-3published at 51 overs

A couple of singles from Liam Dawson's over.

We'll have one more from Ben Stokes before tea.

When you look at the replay of Gill's wicket, it's nipped back a long way. That's a very important wicket. England have bowled decently and just like that, the game changes.

England's quicks have bowled 33% on a good length in this session, up from 28% in the first. While they matched the 40% short deliveries from the morning session, they pulled back on the full deliveries, dropping from 33% to 27% in this session.

This is clearly a line of attack that England and are going to peruse because Sai Sudharsan does look very uncomfortable with the ball coming down the leg side.

  14. Ind 145-3published at 50 overs

The endlessly entertaining Rishabh Pant walks to the middle and gets his innings going immediately with a shot through square leg.

Having come on strike, Sai Sudharsan pulls Stokes for four but then, with the England skipper bowling round the wicket to left-hander, clips the following delivery just short of Liam Dawson at leg slip.

It's hit Dawson on the wrist on his right arm - his non-bowling limb - and the spinner shakes it a little gingerly.

Shubman Gill is getting serenaded from the temporary stand as he walks off. He didn’t make many friends in these parts with his comments yesterday.

Harry Brook, meanwhile, is re-enacting Ben Stokes’s on-his-knees appeal in England’s huddle.

Ben Stokes was adamant, it's a big blow for India to lose their skipper.

    Gill lbw b Stokes 12 (Ind 140-3)

    All reds on ball tracking!

Shubman Gill will walk off regretting his decision not to offer a shot, seeing his opposite number's delivery nip back in off the pitch and strike him on the pads.

It's a strike just below the knee roll and ball-tracking has it hitting off stump.
