  1. wicket

WICKET Browne b Overton 9published at 11:25 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 18-2

Craig Overton is really in the groove now after a slightly loose first over.

He gets one to fizz past Nick Browne's off stump, missing it by a coat of varnish.

    Got him this time!

Browne has been castled by an absolute beauty that nips in sharply off the seam, beats the drive and crashes in to middle and off via an inside edge.

Essex lose both openers inside the first half hour.

Jordan Cox, formerly of Kent, joins Tom Westley in the middle.

  2. 'A very big wicket Somerset'published at 11:21 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 14-1

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Dean Elgar was the author of his own downfall there.

He was looking to play a straight ball through mid wicket and if you miss then you are in trouble, and in trouble he was.

That's a very big wicket for Somerset. Elgar has got great stickability, he's very hard to winkle out.

  3. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 10-0

Crawley is a bit troubled by Will Williams, who is getting the ball to seam into the pads from just back of a length.

Williams offers a bit of width and Crawley taps the ball away into the off side for one.

Williams bowls around the wicket to Compton, who tucks the last ball away to fine leg for one leg bye.

  4. Division Two - Root drops Rootpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 3 May

The first wicket falls in Division Two and it's Derbyshire opener David Lloyd.

The Derbys skipper was rattling along and cracked a couple of early fours to move to to 14 off just 16 balls.

But then England bowler Ollie Robinson traps him lbw next ball.

At Headingley, there may be a bit of extra chirp between the Root brothers as Joe drops Billy off the bowling of Ben Coad.

It was a sharp catch at first slip, but I'm sure it will get a mention later.

  5. wicket

WICKET Elgar lbw b Davey 5published at 11:15 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 14-1

    Early breakthrough for Somerset!

Josh Davey strikes in his second over with a ball that moves in off the seam, striking Dean Elgar on the knee roll.

Plumb in front of middle and off.

Time for Essex captain Tom Westley to bat.

  6. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 14-0

Very much a seam-dominated attack for Somerset here, with Shoaib Bashir missing out on a greenish pitch with grey overheads.

Four runs off the Josh Davey over.

Much better over from Craig Overton, who drags his length back and has Elgar playing and missing outside off.

Elgar carefully pushes the next ball into the covers for one.

  7. 'Floodlights might be on for most of the day'published at 11:09 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 5-0

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The forecast which wasn't great for today has improved quite a bit albeit we might have floodlights on for most of the day because the cloud looks set to be sat right above us.

  8. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 5-0

Tom Bailey starts off with a maiden over.

Will Williams opens the bowling at the James Anderson end and Zak Crawley steps back and punches the ball through the off side for four.

Gorgeous shot - and Crawley takes a moment to watch the replay.

His next shot is a bit less convincing as he inside edges a single to Nathan Lyon, stationed at deep backward square.

  9. Root v Rootpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 0-0 v Glamorgan

It's a case of sibling rivalry at Headingley as Glamorgan batter Billy Root goes up against his big brother.

Billy's straight into the action opening the batting for the Welsh side.

Who will mum and dad, please excuse the pun, be rooting for?

  10. Essex up and runningpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 9-0

Not the best of starts for the hosts.

Craig Overton is bowling very full and his first ball is on the leg stump and clipped away in front of square by Nick Browne for four.

The opener gets a single next ball and his opening partner Dean Elgar has four runs of his own, driven through cover point.

  11. Counties pay tribute to Joshpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 3 May

There's been a minute's silence before play around the grounds to mark the passing of Josh Baker yesterday.

The players are also wearing black arm bands as they pay tribute to the 20-year-old Worcestershire spinner.

  12. Kent batting at Old Traffordpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 0-0

Here comes Ben Compton and Zak Crawley for the visitors.

    Compton will face Tom Bailey.

  13. Play begins at Tauntonpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 0-0

Essex openers Dean Elgar and Nick Browne are in the middle.

Craig Overton will get us started with the ball, bowling to Browne.

  15. Essex put in to bat and Tom Westley returns as captainpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 0-0

The coin has fallen in favour of host captain Lewis Gregory at an overcast Taunton.

    Essex will bat first.

Feroze Khushi misses out this time.

Tom Westley returns as captain, taking over the reins held by Sam Cook in the last round.

Craig Overton and Josh Davey come into the Somerset XI for Kasey Aldridge and Shoaib Bashir.

  16. Lancashire field first at Old Traffordpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 0-0

The coin has fallen in favour of the Red Rose and Kent will bat first.

    Lancashire will play two spinners.

Just one change for the hosts since the last round as Tom Hartley, who made an encouraging Test debut in India, comes into the XI for Jack Blatherwick.

Matt Parkinson features at Old Trafford, but this time as a Kent player.

Three changes for the Kent XI this week - with Grant Stewart, Nathan Gilchrist and Wes Agar coming in for George Garrett, Jas Singh and Arafat Bhuiyan.

  17. How's the weather doing?published at 10:55 British Summer Time 3 May

It looks like we may be in for some interruptions today at a few of our grounds as the rainfall continues to chase us into May.

However, we should get some play at all of our games and, fingers crossed, the rain does the decent thing and stays away.

  18. Division Two - tossespublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 3 May

At Derby, visitors Sussex have won the toss and have inserted the hosts.

And Glamorgan have won the toss and will have first bat at a cloudy Headingley - brave move!

So we will have to wait for a glimpse of Harry Brooks and Joe Root wielding the bat.

However, there will be a delayed toss and start at Lord's where the covers are still on after a soggy start to the day.

  19. Can Essex keep the pressure on Surrey?published at 10:52 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex

Essex are level with Surrey at the top of the table on 71 points - and have the distinction of being the only Championship team to notch up a win in the first round, which was characterised by rain and high-scoring draws.

Surrey sit out this round and will return to the Championship next week.

Somerset are fourth in the table with 53 points and four draws, including what may be a vital one against Surrey at the Oval, where the hosts ran out of time chasing 208 on the final afternoon.

Victory for Essex will give them a useful cushion at the top of the table and put a bit more pressure on Surrey on their return to four-day cricket next week against Warwickshire.

  20. Fight to get out of the drop zonepublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancashire v Kent

This fixture at Old Trafford is vital for both teams, who had chastening defeats to the division leaders in the last round.

Lancashire lost to Essex at Chelmsford by an innings and 124 runs, leaving them at the bottom of the table on 24 points.

Kent are just two points ahead in ninth place after Surrey beat them by an innings and 37 runs at Canterbury.

Gloomy overhead conditions are expected in Manchester, with a strong possibility of rain early this evening.

This makes it likely that the hosts will only play one spinner out of Tom Hartley and Nathan Lyon.

Victory for either side will move them out of the bottom two spots in the table, ahead of eighth-placed Hampshire, who are currently on 31 points and sit out this round.
