  1. 'Sussex have justified bowling first'published at 12:59 British Summer Time 3 May

    Derbyshire 89-4 v Sussex

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

You're on a slight hiding to nothing coming out in this light, this close to lunch.

Sussex having picked up a couple of wickets in the last couple of overs will have fully justified that decision to bowl first.

    The light is not great.

  2. Division Two - Fifty for Rootpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 3 May

    Billy RootImage source, Rex Features

And it's not the Root that Yorkshire fans would've been hoping for.

Instead it's younger sibling Billy who turns away a Dom Bess ball for a single which moves him to a 17th first-class half-century off 88 balls.

And what a place to do it, in the county of his birth.

He was dropped on six by his brother - a touch chance at that - and Billy is cashing in.

  3. wicket

WICKET Leaning b Balderson 4published at 12:55 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 72-4

Out! Lancashire have four before lunch.

Jack Leaning departs just before the break, missing an attempted booming drive down the ground and losing his leg stump to the bowling of George Balderson.

Full delivery with a possible hint of late swing.

    Harry Finch to bat next.

  4. Postpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 93-5

Tom Westley is the key wicket for both teams now.

The Essex captain unbeaten on 40.

Harry Duke is forward to Lewis Gregory, defending into the off side.

  5. 'A very good catch from Overton'published at 12:53 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 91-5

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

We said if Somerset could split the pairing of Tom Westley and Noah Thain before lunch then that would consolidate their morning's work.

After perhaps an indifferent spell from Jake Ball, he puts one in the right place and it's a very good catch at second slip from Craig Overton.

  6. Postpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 72-3

Kent will be looking very much to the experience of Jack Leaning and Joe Denly to take the visitors deep into the afternoon session after losing three wickets for 22 runs.

Denly leaves Will Williams outside off and then defends a straighter ball into the leg side.

    Maiden over.

  7. 'A good fightback from Lancashire'published at 12:47 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 69-3

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

A good catch from George Bell.

The Kent captain has departed for three.

In what was quite a frustrating first hour or so for Lancashire, things are probably feeling a little bit better now for the home side.

A good fightback from Lancashire. It's been a really enjoyable morning session.

  8. wicket

WICKET Thain c Overton b Ball 14published at 12:42 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 88-5

Breakthrough! Somerset have taken five before lunch!

Noah Thain was batting nicely before this ball.

Jake Ball has him rooted to the crease, edging to a diving Craig Overton in the slips. Brilliant catch.

    Harry Duke is in next.

  9. wicket

    WICKET Bell-Drummond c Bell b Balderson 3published at 12:40 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 67-3

The wheels are beginning to wobble for Kent.

Daniel Bell-Drummond is turned around by George Balderson, as the Kent captain shapes to play to leg and gets a leading edge up to George Bell at second slip.

A second for Balderson and it's time for Joe Denly to have a bat.

  10. Division Two - fifty stand for Root and Northeastpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 3 May

There can't be many occasions where a spinner has bowled 10 overs on the first morning at Headingley but that's the case today.

The floodlights have been on for some time and Dan Moriarty has whirled away since the 10th over as Yorkshire try to take advantage of a used pitch.

After losing Eddie Byrom, Glamorgan have battled back well as Billy Root (32*) and Sam Northeast (25*) bring up the 50 partnership for the second wicket off 111 balls.

    The visitors are 71-1.

  11. Postpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 84-4

Lewis Gregory brings himself back into the attack for Somerset to try and dislodge this fifth wicket Essex partnership between Tom Westley and Noah Thain.

An otherwise tight over ends with a slightly shorter, wider ball punched through the off side by Westley for four.

  12. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 75-4

Tom Westley picks up four more with a back foot glance through mid wicket and Noah Thain gets four more with a cover drive off the same bowler.

Runs are beginning to flow at Taunton.

  13. wicket

WICKET Crawley c Hurst b Williams 41published at 12:30 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 63-2

    And now he's out.

Will Williams gets Zak Crawley a bit stuck on the crease driving wide of off stump - and he's edged a catch to Matthew Hurst behind the timbers.

Lancashire have battled hard and dismissed both Kent openers in this session.

Jack Leaning is in for the visitors next.

  14. Crawley moving through the gearspublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 63-1

Riches indeed after a morning of attrition as Zak Crawley picks up three successive boundaries.

He drives George Balderson down the ground to take Kent past 50, whips the same bowler through the leg side and gets four more with an exquisitely-timed push off the back foot through cover.

  15. 'Glamorgan will be keen to limit the damage before the rain'published at 12:29 British Summer Time 3 May

    Glamorgan 64-1 v Yorkshire

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

The choice of a used pitch at Headingley could be the key factor in this game, with Yorkshire bringing in specialist spinners Dom Bess and Dan Moriarty on the wicket used last week against Derbyshire.

Glamorgan chose to bat despite the grey skies, and saw opener Billy Root dropped by brother Joe at slip on six, as the England man couldn’t cling on one-handed to a sharp chance.

Eddie Byrom, returning after injury, was first to go pinned leg-before by Ben Coad for nine.

Then we saw the surprise sight of left-arm spinner Dan Moriarty bowling just the 10th over, getting turn out of the footmarks.

Glamorgan will be keen to limit the damage before the likely arrival of the rain this afternoon.

  16. 'Relief for Lancashire'published at 12:26 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 48-1

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

A little bit of relief for the Lancashire players.

That wicket was very well deserved.

Lancashire have bowled pretty well - it's been a really good passage of play in the first hour or so.

  17. Postpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 65-4

Jake Ball is into the attack and a full ball is punched through mid on by Tom Westley for four.

The Essex captain moves into the 20s with a firm whipped drive through mid on off the bowling of Migael Pretorius for four more.

Essex are battling their way back into this game as one or two loose deliveries have seeped into the Somerset attack.

  18. wicket

WICKET Compton c Hurst b Balderson 13published at 12:17 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 45-1

    Breakthrough!

George Balderson is rewarded for a testing spell as he angles the ball in and brings Ben Compton forward to defend.

He's edged the ball to keeper Matthew Hurst at knee height behind the stumps.

Kent captain Daniel Bell-Drummond joins Zak Crawley in the middle.

  19. Close call for Crawleypublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 45-0

A slice of luck for Kent and for Zak Crawley as the opener tries to leave a ball from Will Williams at the last moment and edges a four between slip and gully to move on to 26.

    And breathe.

  20. 'Becoming a good morning for Somerset'published at 12:14 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset v Essex 52-4

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

This is becoming a very good morning for Somerset.

There's a lot resting on Tom Westley's shoulders out there with the cream of the Essex batting back in the hutch.
