Summary

  1. Eng 88-1published at 18.3 overs

The umpires have got the light meters out. It is looking gloomy, but it's not stopping Zak Crawley.

Another exquisite cover drive reaches the boundary.

You'd expect a cut shot to be off the back foot but Pope just leans into it, uses his hands and guides it.

  3. Eng 84-1published at 18 overs

It's turning out to be a good day for Surrey players at Lord's.

Ollie Pope continues to build his innings in style, driving Shamar Joseph past point for his ninth boundary already.

  4. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 10 July

A good review from Ollie Pope earlier to overturn an lbw off Jason Holder's bowling.

He's got a run-a-ball 38 at the moment and is going along very nicely.

Ollie Pope is very, very strong square of the wicket. The one thing you want to do as a bowler is avoid giving him width.

Loud appeal for a catch behind but the appeal appeared to be more in excitement than belief.

  7. Eng 79-1published at 17 overs

Again, Jason Holder thinks he's got Ollie Pope. He goes up for caught behind, but withdraws from the appeal after realising he'd quite obviously hit the ground.

There's one boundary an over at the minute, which is costing West Indies dearly. Pope drives fluently for four more as Holder offers too much width.

This West Indies bowling attack has got huge potential but not much experience, certainly not in front of a full house at Lord's.

  9. Eng 75-1published at 16 overs

    Stunning.

Zak Crawley's trademark drive through the covers brings him three more. England are well-placed to end day one with a decent lead.

Holder is excellent at holding his line and length. The West Indies do need some control.

  11. Eng 71-1published at 15 overs

Good over from Holder, despite the boundary. Just offering that threat of extra bounce that West Indies needed.

Doing too much on the angle, going up the slope. Good call by Zak Crawley at the non-striker's end.

  13. Not outpublished at 14.5 overs

    Missing leg stump!

Didn't see that coming, it looked plumb at first glance.

It looked very close. It's very full so it's not going to go over.

It only has to be clipping and I fear for Ollie Pope.

The perfect response from Holder! He traps Ollie Pope lbw.

Given on field, and Pope reviews. It looks close, Pope was playing all around it.

Technically perfect with that on-drive from Ollie Pope.

  17. Eng 72-1published at 14.2 overs

One of West Indies' more experienced Test players, all-rounder Jason Holder, is also into the attack for a double change.

And he's beautifully driven down the ground for four by Ollie Pope.

If it's his day, if he doesn't get one of those nicks and keeps crashing the ball to the boundary, Zak Crawley can win you the match in the blink of an eye.

Elegant and up on his toes there, it was a bit Joe Root-y.

  19. Eng 67-1published at 14 overs

Joseph nearly gets the breakthrough straight away!

Ollie Pope flashes, gets a thick edge but it flies past the outstretched hand of the fielder at gully.

A streak of luck for Pope, before Zak Crawley nails a picture-perfect punch off the back foot for four more. Classy.

Shamar Joseph is looking for that consistent channel and that was his strong point in Australia. He bowled at good pace and with consistency.
