Summary

  1. dropped catch

Holder dropped on 12published at 12:44 British Summer Time 28 July

Regulation chance shelled by Zak Crawley at second slip. Jason Holder, on a dozen, gets a life. Zak Crawley gets a pat on the back from Stokes.

Ben Stokes to continue. This is the seventh over of his spell, but I doubt it will be his last.

I was up at Durham for a couple of the county games he played. Stokes was always first out there bowling pre-play. Then, if Durham were batting, he was off to the nets hitting balls. I think the poor Durham coaches have a rota for "whose turn is it to sling to Stokesy today?!"

He bowled some mammoth in-game spells, too. I asked Scott Borthwick how one goes about taking Stokes off. His response? A big grin, followed by the words "you can't".

  3. WI 141-4published at 37 overs

Boundary to start the over, Jason Holder flicking Chris Woakes to the leg-side boundary nicely. That aside, not much occurring. Hodge 49 unbeaten.

    Ah yes, that's it Tuffers!

Suspect England are wary of over-using Atkinson. This is the first time in his career that he has played three red-ball games in quick succession.

It is slightly bewildering that we haven't seen Gus Atkinson yet. I would have started with him.

  6. WI 136-4published at 36 overs

Still missing something here. I can't think what...

  7. WI 132-4published at 35.1 overs

Shake of the head from Stokes who was looking for the yorker but it is a half-volley. Hodge puts it away nicely, moving to 46 from 46. I make that a strike-rate of bob on 100.

  8. WI 128-4published at 35 overs

Crowd catch to end the over. Nothing better.

  9. Ireland v Zimbabwe set for close finishpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 28 July

This isn't the only Test match currently going on.

Ireland are playing Zimbabwe in Belfast and that game is closing on an exciting finish.

The hosts are chasing 158 but they slipped to 21-5 on Saturday.

It has gone much better on Sunday though, and now need less than 50 to win.

Follow that one with our colleagues from Belfast.

Here we go. Chris Woakes time.

  11. WI 127-4published at 34 overs

England get the breakthrough they were desperately seeking. That fourth-wicket partnership was worth 72 off 78.

That was my fear. He'd started scoring and playing his shots, so it was whether he could leave and ask Ben Stokes to come fuller and straighter.

I don't think the dismissal should taken away from a fine knock - we've started to see something there.

The ball before just gave a sense of that and Louis has to drag himself off again. He's done so much hard work. It was nicely taken at second slip but he just fended his bat, like he was doing catching practice.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 28 July

    Louis c Crawley b Stokes 57 (WI 125-3)

And there is the outside. England needed that.

Louis has looked in great touch but he has to depart. Ben Stokes will be relieved man - remember, he shelled a simple catch at mid-off yesterday when Louis had just nine.

Intriguing field for Stokes to Louis. Short third and a silly point. Couple of slips, too.

"What have the Romans ever done for us?" A distinct lack of fancy dress at Edgbaston today but that has not stopped Henry here turning up in his, ahem, Sunday best.

  17. WI 124-3published at 33 overs

Another big hit from Mikyle Louis off of Bashir. This one sails over mid-off.

Bashir has bowled 13 overs so far in the session. I wonder if the West Indies sense that England are reluctant to turn to Atkinson and Woakes this morning, and are deliberately trying to put pressure on Bashir?

  18. WI 118-3published at 32 overs

Kavem Hodge gets an absolute beauty from Stokes. So good, in fact, that he can't even nick it. Same again two balls later.

The delivery in-between? Well that one flies away for four. Who'd be a bowler?

  19. Postpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 28 July

Just as I say this pair look settled, they attempt a terrible run. A little lucky there. Direct hit would have brought a wicket... and by some margin.

  20. WI 112-3published at 31 overs

This pair are looking pretty settled right now. Time for Woakes and/or Atkinson?
