Summary

  1. 50 runs

50 for Mikyle Louispublished at 30.4 overs

    WI 112-3

And what a way to do it. Mikyle Louis brings up his maiden Test half-century by giving Bashir a bash.

I don't think anyone expected that, perhaps not even Louis himself!

  2. Classy Hodgepublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 28 July

Kavem Hodge's first pair of boundaries were nicks through the slips. However, his next couple were super duper. Don't believe me? Watch the below.

Mikyle Louis has played nicely. I like the fact that he seems more sure of how and where he wants to score his runs.

  4. WI 103-3published at 30 overs

Lots going on in that six balls. West Indies bring up their team 100, while this pair have put on 50 between them in under 10 overs. Pick of the shots was a drive from Louis that went to mid-off's left before crossing the rope.

Ventured right to the back of the West Stand upper tier - the highest point for spectators in the ground. The fans here are starting to sizzle in the sun. Definitely a day to 'slip, slap, slop' as the great late Richie Benaud used to say.

  6. Postpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 28 July

Short point in for Mikyle Louis. England have a plan.

  7. WI 96-3published at 29.1 overs

The lesser spotted yorker first up after the water break...and it almost works. Kavem Hodge jams his bat down on the ball, which subsequently bounces over the stumps.

  8. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 29 overs

    WI 96-3 - lead by 2

The first hour negotiated for the loss of just Athanaze. I think the West Indies would have taken that.

It slightly surprises me that we've seen an hours cricket and we haven't seen Gus Atkinson or Chris Woakes.

There were obviously some rumours that Woakes had issues in his quads yesterday.

  10. WI 94-3published at 28.1 overs

And there is parity. Every run from here pushes the West Indies into the lead.

An hour gone almost and no Woakes or Atkinson...yes.

  11. WI 91-3published at 28 overs

Mikyle Louis's turn to stroke Stokes to the boundary. Shot. Two from parity.

  12. WI 86-2published at 27.2 overs

Checked drive from Hodge bounces up and over Stokes and the beats the diving Chris Woakes at mid-off. That was a John Karelse-esque attempt at a stop from Woakes. Hodge gets four.

  13. WI 82-3published at 27 overs

Bashir comes around the wicket to the right-handed Kavem Hodge.

And a couple of balls later, with Hodge waltzing at him, Bashir fires the ball back in his direction. He does so with a grin, naturally.

Trail by 14. The West Indies have settled down a touch here. They were a little flustered in and around that Bashir wicket, and there was a danger of a proper collapse. These two have now added 27. Hodge has 24 of them.

  15. WI 78-3published at 25 overs

    Bashir through another over.

Now it is time for Ben Stokes.

  16. England's morning fruit...published at 11:45 British Summer Time 28 July

Or should that be eggs? I'm reliably informed by Timothy Abraham that Shoaib likes his scrambled.

Here he is taking a wicket not so long ago...

  17. WI 75-3published at 24 overs

Hodge's third boundary is a good 'un. A couple of streaky edges got him up and running, but he moves into double figures with a well-timed pull.

His fourth arrives immediately. Wood looks to go a little fuller, but overcompensates. Hodge punches it to the cover boundary. This is the Hodge we saw make a Trent Bridge century.

  18. WI 64-3published at 23 overs

Deficit is now 30. Bashir bowled that last ball a little quicker. 59mph.

By Mark Wood's standards he's quite grumpy today. He deserves a wicket.

  20. WI 62-3published at 22 overs

Kavem Hodge is not looking comfortable against Wood.

Jamie Smith went up for a catch but I'm pretty sure that flicked Hodge's right pocket. The next delivery takes the outside edge and flies away for four.

Just like at Trent Bridge, Wood is just not getting the wickets his efforts deserve. 4-160 so far in the series paints only about 20% of the picture. Ben Stokes knows that, though, and wraps his muscular arms around his Durham pal.
