    Essex 93-6 v Worcs - target 184

Gorgeous square drive from Simon Harmer to the first bit of width offered by Logan van Beek of late.

So long as the South African is there, Essex are alive in this. Michael Pepper made a century in the first innings too, don't forget.

  2. wicket

WICKET: Turner c Overton b Leach 18published at 14:04 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset v Durham 108-7 (target 420)

This is why Somerset kept Jack Leach on after lunch!

The left-armer breaks what had begun to develop into a stubborn partnership - and the method has been very familiar throughout this game.

That's pitch, turn, bounce and take the edge - and Craig Overton snaps it up in the slips to send Ashton Turner on his way.

Three more wickets needed for Somerset.

  3. Postpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 1 September

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 290-5

There are two types of leave, as they say. This was a good one.

Timm van der Gugten has a fresh cherry in his hand and gets one to jag back at Louis Kimber by a mile from outside off.

He shoulders arms and looks a very relieved man after the ball flies over the top of middle stump.

A boundary off the next ball takes the deficit down to nine.

  4. wicket

WICKET Burns b Ahmed 71published at 14:03 British Summer Time 1 September

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 136-5

    Bowled him!!

Rory Burns backs away to try to pull Farhan Ahmed, but it keeps a bit low and with a touch of bat, the leg-stump lies on the floor.

A fine match for Burns ends with 232 runs after 161 in the first innings.

The astonishing debut for 16-ear-old Ahmed continues. It's now nine wickets for the young off-spinner.

  5. Battle for survivalpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset v Durham 108-6 (target 420)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

This game was over, in terms of a Durham win, after the first 10 overs of their second innings last night.

They lost three wickets during that period of gloomy cricket, one when most people in the ground would not have expected to see any play.

Even though the lights were on it was dark. The sky leaden in colour and it felt like the end of October, not August.

Durham resumed this morning on 15-3, needing another 405 to beat Somerset. But the reality was they needed to bat out the day for a draw.

Archie Vaughan got the first wicket of the day, as nightwatchman Callum Parkinson was out for 18, while Jack Leach took the other two wickets to fall before lunch, including that of the other night watchman, George Drissell, for a career-best 33.

Ollie Robinson also fell for four. So at six down this is very much a battle for survival on another gloomy, but humid afternoon, in Taunton.

  6. Essex within 100published at 13:59 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 85-6 v Worcs - target 184

Simon Harmer gets off the mark with a couple off Logan van Beek and that takes the ask to 99.

    They have four wickets remaining.

    Don't go anywhere.

  7. Postpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 1 September

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 130-4

A Farhan Ahmed delivery spins past everything and goes down as four byes - the first Kyle Verreynne has conceded all match.

Sai Sudharsan tucks the next one legside and that sees Surrey's lead reach 250.

There are a possible 60 overs left.

  8. Postpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 1 September

    Yorks 601-6 dec & 30-0 v Middx 522

Four overs into the afternoon session at Headingley... anything doing?

Well, Yorkshire have added another 16 runs, with Finlay Bean crashing a couple of back-foot boundaries off Tom Helm and he has 13, with Adam Lyth registering the other 17 so far.

But there doesn't appear to be a great deal of urgency - and that's no massive surprise given where both teams are in the table.

If this does end in a draw, they'll stay third and second respectively, with Middlesex just one point ahead of their opponents.

  9. wicket

WICKET Walter c Roderick b van Beek 3published at 13:49 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 81-6 v Worcs - target 184

    Wow. Six down.

Tall Paul Walter stands up to his full height and tries to slash away through the covers off Logan van Beek but can only flash an edge to Gareth Roderick who takes a fine tumbling catch to his left.

Simon Harmer comes in to try to stem the flow of wickets.

  10. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 1 September

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 278-6

Mason Crane has dropped another one. This one would have been a stunner, in fairness.

Diving low to his right in his follow-through to get a hand to Louis Kimber's drive, but the ball comes out as he hits the deck.

That's his fourth chance, perhaps the hardest of all. Glamorgan hands on heads again. They need one to stick.

The lead is 21 and though there are 61 overs remaining, who knows if we see them all.

  11. Postpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 79-5 v Worcs - target 184

Michael Pepper survives a HUGE shout for lbw first ball to Amar Virdi.

Might just have been sliding down leg.

Pears tails are well and truly up.

    Essex look shell-shocked.

  12. Sunny Hovepublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 1 September

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 209-4

The sun is out in Hove with the players back on the field.

Ollie Robinson opens up as Sussex begin the hunt for six wickets.

  13. wicket

WICKET Critchley c Hose b Virdi 7published at 13:44 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 79-5 v Worcs - target 184

Matt Critchley holes out to Adam Hose at leg slip as he tries to turn Amar Virdi away.

    Game very much ON.

Michael Pepper joins Paul Walter in the firing line.

  14. Postpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset v Durham 96-6 (target 420)

Jack Leach bowled exactly half of the first 44 overs in this Durham second innings and he gets proceedings under way again with the first six balls after lunch.

Two runs conceded, with Ashton Turner advancing his score to 13, but it's all about wickets now - and Somerset need four more of those.

  15. wicket

WICKET Rehan Ahmed c Crane b Carlson 4published at 13:42 British Summer Time 1 September

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 271-5

    Kiran Carlson has 2-12.

A wicket with the third ball of the afternoon as Rehan Ahmed cuts straight to Mason Crane at backward point and this time he makes no mistake.

Louis Kimber joins Peter Handscomb and Glamorgan will feel they are one more scalp away from taking charge.

  16. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 75-4 v Worcs - target 184

Final session of the match under way, you'd expect... don't look away.

  17. Postpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 1 September

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 271-4

The next hour is huge, you feel.

If Glamorgan can pick up another scalp or two, particular if it's the gritty Peter Handscomb, then they will fancy their chances of sealing a win which looked highly likely 24 hours ago. They have a new ball due in three overs time.

However if Rehan Ahmed and Handscomb can wipe out the 28-run deficit and build a lead then the draw will be odds on.

  19. 'More hard work lies ahead for Somerset'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset 492 & 263-5 dec v Durham 336 & 94-6 - Durham need 326 to win

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It has felt like the clock has been turned back eight years at Taunton this morning, with spinners wheeling away from both ends on a turning pitch, straining every sinew to winkle out batsmen defending as if their lives depend on it.

The combination of Jack Leach and Archie Vaughan claimed three more Durham victims this morning, but a lot more hard work lies ahead as the ball gets softer, if Somerset are to win, as they must do to sustain their challenge to Surrey.
