Rory Burns really has hit form at the end of summer.

227, 161 and now 50 not out in his last three knocks and closing in on 1000 Championship runs for 2024.

This one is off 99 balls with five fours.

But he won't be happy at his own part in Ben Foakes' run out!

  2. new ball

New ballpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 1 September

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 196-2

After a fruitless first hour, there is little surprise to see Sussex grab the new ball.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice has first use of it as they try to dismiss either Harry Came or Wayne Madsen.

  3. wicket

WICKET: Drissell c Gregory b Leach 33published at 12:31 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset v Durham 77-6 (target 420)

Same combination again for Somerset as Durham's sixth wicket falls.

George Drissell's defiant knock of almost an hour and a quarter, for a career-best 33, comes to an end.

He edges Jack Leach into the hands of first slip and Somerset need four more.

Bas de Leede joins Ashton Turner at the crease.

  4. wicket

WICKET: Helm c Wharton b Bess 4published at 12:27 British Summer Time 1 September

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 516-9

Six wickets for Dom Bess and Middlesex are nine down.

The off-spinner is brought back on for his umpteenth spell of the innings and Tom Helm lunges forward, with short-leg snapping up a routine catch.

Last man Noah Cornwell is on his way out to begin his first County Championship innings.

  5. wicket

WICKET Foakes run out (Hameed) 6published at 12:27 British Summer Time 1 September

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 85-4

A real mix-up in the middle and Ben Foakes has to go.

Rory Burns dabs one into the offside and it's his call. But it's very much 'Yes, no' and they eventually go, but Foakes slips, drops his bat and is run out by a combination of Haseeb Hameed and Kyle Verreynne.

Surrey lead by 205 but the loss of wickets is hampering their chance to quicken the scoring rate.

This wicket is a self-inflicted blow.

  6. wicket

WICKET Westley c Roderick b Taylor 21published at 12:26 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 53-2 v Worcs - target 184

Well, well. Tom Westley has an ill-judged waft at a waist high one from Tom Taylor and can only edge behind to Gareth Roderick who takes a simple catch to his right.

Jordan Cox comes in to join Robin Das and he really only has one way of playing - positively!

    132 needed.

  7. 150 runs

150 partnership for Leicestershirepublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 1 September

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 229-3

Ajinkya Rahane dances down the track and launches Asa Tribe back over his head for six to bring up the 150 stand from 260 deliveries and move himself to 84.

    The visitors trail by 70.

  8. Postpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 46-1 v Worcs - target 184

Robin Das has a drive at a wide one from Tom Taylor and flashes an edge past the vacant third slip area to find the rope at third.

Not convincing but they all count.

The hosts will be hoping to be halfway to their target at least when they tuck into their lunch.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Robinson c Gregory b Leach 4published at 12:18 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset v Durham 70-5 (target 420)

    Big wicket for Jack Leach!

Another ball pitches and turns and Ollie Robinson was almost trying to pull the bat away as it skimmed off the edge and low to first slip, where Lewis Gregory takes a tumbling catch.

Durham are five down now - Somerset need five more to seal a vital win.

  10. wicket

    WICKET: Roland-Jones b Coad 31published at 12:14 British Summer Time 1 September

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 513-8

Ben Coad has a third wicket now - and this one splays all three stumps rather than just two.

Toby Roland-Jones has a swing at a ball that kept low and a bottom edge helps seal his demise.

This feels like a real clatter of wickets in the context of such a run-heavy game!

  11. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 35-1 v Worcs - target 184

Tom Taylor is brought on as first change by Worcestershire but slightly overpitches, allowing Tom Westley the chance to drive attractively straight back down the ground for another boundary.

Essex require fewer than 150 more runs to seal victory.

  12. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 1 September

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 72-3

Those two wickets in the over for Liam Patterson-White have taken a bit of the wind out of the Surrey sails.

Will Jacks, in particular, is a player who can really push the score along.

And there is almost a fourth wicket in the innings as Brett Hutton puts down Rory Burns at square leg.

  13. wicket

WICKET: Parkinson c Goldsworthy b Vaughan 18published at 12:09 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset v Durham 63-4 (target 420)

    Archie VaughanImage source, Getty Images

Archie Vaughan is handed the ball for the first time today - and the teenager makes an immediate impact!

Ironically, it's the most untidy delivery of Vaughan's first over that prises out Callum Parkinson, slapping one that's short and wide outside leg stump straight to the square leg fielder.

Nevertheless, it's a wicket maiden for Vaughan and breaks this partnership of 48 between the two Durham nightwatchmen.

Ollie Robinson makes his way to the middle now for the visitors.

  14. 100 runs

100 partnershippublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 1 September

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 181-2

Harry Came dabs one out to deep point off Henry Crocombe and the single allows him and Wayne Madsen to touch gloves and acknowledge their 100 partnership.

They are doing a good job to try to save the game for Derbyshire.

  15. Leicestershire within 100published at 12:07 British Summer Time 1 September

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 200-3

Ajinkya Rahane flashes a gorgeous drive through the covers to the rope from a wide one from Dan Douthwaite.

That brings up the 200 and takes the visitors within 99 of making Glamorgan bat again.

The hosts are trying not to panic, but failing to take a wicket before lunch was not really an option when they took to the field this morning.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Higgins b Coad 155published at 12:04 British Summer Time 1 September

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 504-7

There's a sight we haven't seen very often during these four days at Headingley!

A wicket for a pace bowler - and middle and off stump both sent flying as Ben Coad pings one through the defences of Ryan Higgins to take his second scalp in this game.

Higgins departs for an excellent 155 and Tom Helm comes out to replace him, with Middlesex now just 97 behind the Yorkshire total.

  17. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 1 September

    Essex 26-1 v Worcs - target 184

After a few overs without an Essex boundary, Tom Westley ends the latest Amar Virdi over with a well-timed sweep to the fence to take the ask down to 158.

  18. Postpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 1 September

    Somerset v Durham 56-3 (target 420)

George Drissell has just banged another couple of boundaries off Kasey Aldridge and he's moved on to a career-best 23 not out.

Drissell and Callum Parkinson have now added 41 since they came together amid the carnage last night - and Durham certainly aren't lying down for Somerset here.

  19. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 1 September

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 171-2

An hour gone in Hove and not too many issues so far for Derbyshire.

They have reduced the deficit to 146 as Wayne Madsen and Harry Came's partnership is now worth 90.

Sussex have had some funky fielders, but captain John Simpson is probably thinking about the second new ball, which is eight overs away.

  20. 150 runs

150 for Ryan Higginspublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 1 September

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 498-6

Ryan Higgins (Middlesex)Image source, Rex Features

A ripple of applause as Ryan Higgins pulls Jordan Thompson to the boundary and then turns the next one for a single to reach 150.

Higgins, who gets there from 252 balls, is the third player to pass 150 in this game after Jonny Bairstow and George Hill both did it during the Yorkshire innings.

There may yet be a second Yorkshire innings of sorts, but that's by no means a certainty!
