BBC Sport's Sam Drury tells us there have been a "few scattered showers in Southampton this afternoon", and a "heavy downpour" at around 17:30 BST but the covers are off.

However, the toss has been delayed until 18:15 BST with play now due to commence at 18:45.

The forecast according to BBC Weather suggests there should not be too many interruptions this evening, though.

    Fingers crossed.

There's been a grand total of 95 days since England and Australia last met on a cricket field - at the men's T20 World Cup in Barbados.

Australia won that match at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown relatively comfortably. The winds of change have been blowing through England's white-ball setup since then, though.
