  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.3 overs

Halliday c Knight b Glenn 51 (NZ 156 all out)

And then Halliday goes. A big swing of the bat sees the ball head up into surprisingly humid north east sky.

Heather Knight steadies herself and takes the catch.

Sarah Glenn has one in the wickets column and New Zealand are done and dusted.

  2. NZ 156-9published at 33.2 overs

Halliday sticks one up in the air and gets away with it, before a reverse sweep brings up her half century. 51 off 59. Well batted.

  3. NZ 150-9published at 33 overs

Nifty little sweep for four there from Halliday. Gets into position early and, despite Charlie Dean following her with a ball aimed at the body, Halliday still manages to get it away. Next up comes the old 'drop and run' to keep the strike. 150 up.

There was some good stuff from New Zealand at the start of the innings but it's fallen away considerably. Brooke Halliday has played positively against the spinner, but overall it hasn't gone to plan.

  5. NZ 145-9published at 32 overs

Well, Brooke Holiday answers my question pretty emphatically.

She hits Sarah Glenn's first ball down the ground but refuses a single to the boundary fielder. Unfortunately for her, she can't come back for two after hitting the next ball to deep mid-wicket. Fortunately for her, Fran Jonas keeps Glenn at bay for the remainder of the over.

Such joy for Brooke Halliday who hit that really well, straight back over the bowlers head and into the boundary boards. That's a six all right.

  7. NZ 144-9published at 31 overs

Will be interesting to see what Brooke Halliday does now. Will she trust her batting partner, or will she farm the strike?

  8. NZ 143-9published at 30.4 overs

First six of the match. Here we go. Brooke Halliday shimmies before plonking Charlie Dean back over her head. The boundaries are small today (in fact, as small as the ICC allow) and that one drops over boundary. Just.

Charlie Dean is one of the most skillful off-spinners in the world. She has a tremendous cricket brain and is always trying to think batters out.

Well, at least New Zealand didn't lose another wicket, right? Got to take those little victories.

Sarah Glenn fizzes through another set of six and we have had 30 overs up at CLS. The sun is shining and England are smiling.

Dean has a 5-fer in her sights.

  11. NZ 134-9published at 29 overs

Another Charlie Dean over, another Charlie Dean wicket. Thanks Charlie - you're making my job a pretty simple one right now. For New Zealand the opposite is very much the case.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 28.5 overs

    Penfold b Dean 1 (NZ 134-9)

Molly Penfold wasn't sure whether to go forward to that one or stay back. She did neither, played and missed and the flashing bails are on the floor again.

Brooke Halliday has played some nice shots for New Zealand, so it will be interesting to see if England start to starve her of the strike.

  14. NZ 131-8published at 28 overs

Brooke Halliday is very strong through the covers - she takes a boundary off Sarah Glenn's latest set of six.

As per my entry of a few minutes back, though, Halliday is rapidly running out of batting mates.

New Zealand just don't have any answers at the minute. They don't seem to have a plan on how to play quality England bowling. There's a lack of clarity there.

Two thirds of New Zealand's runs have come in boundaries which shows you difficult it has been scoring the rest of the time.

  16. NZ 126-8published at 27 overs

Another Charlie Dean over, another Charlie Dean wicket. Cut and paste job for me at the minute!

There was nearly a ninth wicket too, Molly Penfold getting off the mark with a single that we will call...dodgy, yes, let's go with dodgy. Direct hit and she would not even have been in the frame.

England are ripping through them now.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 26.1 overs

    Kerr c Jones b Dean 10 (NZ 124-8)

There is that flight and drift from Dean. She is only 23 but bowls offies like she's been twirling away for decade after decade.

Another superb grab from Amy Jones, by the way. Makes it look easy but that took a lot of bat and deviated significantly. Kerr had started brightly but just couldn't hang about.

  19. NZ 124-7published at 26 overs

First look at Sarah Glenn with ball in hand this series. The third part of England's spin Triptych.

Another nice stroke from Jess Kerr brings her a second boundary.

A good shot but overpitched from Charlie Dean. You've got to be putting that away.
