England looking to make most of the power play.

Molly Penfold slips on to the legs of Tammy Beaumont and she glances it fine for four.

Later in the over Maia Bouchier picks up the length of a short ball quickly and whips it through mid-wicket for another four. Control and timing from the

Tammy Beaumont is being very smart with her counting, she's taking all the strike.

  3. Eng 22-0published at 4 overs

    Classic Tammy Beaumont.

She is given a fraction of width by the first ball of Jess Kerr's second over and the England opener classy punches the ball through backward point for four.

Excellent judgment outside her off stump.

Molly Penfold was going too short in her first over, and both batters got a boundary away early which is what you always want to give you a bit of confidence.

A much better length from Molly Penfold so far.

  6. Eng 16-0published at 2.1 overs

More like it from Molly Penfold as she fizzes one past the edge of Tammy Beaumont's bat with the first ball of the over. The England opener held the pose, defiantly showing the maker's name to the Kiwi bowler.

It looks very different all of a sudden, when Jess Kerr is bowling. Big in-swing and she'll be looking to get Tammy Beaumont playing around that front pad.

  8. Eng 16-0published at 2.0 overs

Just a single for Tammy Beaumont off the next over as Jess Kerr claws one back for New Zealand.

A glorious stroke from Maia Bouchier to end the over. England have made a very strong start.

Good afternoon All. You just mentioned on TMS school children attending the Riverside today. Our daughter is with you today with her primary school cricket cohort. It's Hunter Hall School from Penrith. Hope you all have a great day.

Maia Bouchier off the mark with a four, driven effortlessly through the covers, off Molly Penfold.

New Zealand already have their backs up against it here.

I think for England this is a good opportunity to go out and be positive without the pressure of chasing down a big total.

  13. Eng 9-0published at 0.2 overs

And another boundary for Tammy Beaumont! Similar length from Molly Penfold and it's whacked behind square for four more.

    Commanding start by England.

  14. Eng 5-0published at 0.1 overs

    Thanks, Sam.

No messing about from England here. Tammy Beaumont pumps a free hit after a no-ball to start from Molly Penfold for four through the leg side.

Right that's me done for the time being. The players are back out in the sunshine and the chase of 157 is underway. Here is Timothy Abraham.

The wickets they kept on tumbling...

First, Nat Sciver-Brunt - whose knee troubles meant she was restricted to a pre-planned five overs - trapped Maddy Green lbw.

Then Charlie Dean arrived to do Charlie Dean things. She finished with 4 for 38 off her nine overs.

And Sarah Glenn finished it off...

Still, after ten overs, New Zealand would have been pretty pleased with their early work. At 56 for 1 following the Powerplay, a platform had very much been built.

And then it was smashed over.

Things began to go awry when Georgia Plimmer was run-out - 'unfortunate' would be a fair description.

What followed was a flurry of wickets. And they were big wickets, too - Amelia Kerr and skipper Sophie Devine.

Well, while the players enjoy their lunch? Or is it tea? I don't know, anyway, while they are eating, let us recap the New Zealand innings.

The visitors, who stuck themselves in after winning the toss, got off to a mini-flyer. Suzie Bates, who started the series needing just 96 runs to become only the third woman to 10,000 runs in international cricket, looked in lovely touch. Here is her taking back-to-back boundaries from Lauren Bell:

But then England's other Lauren came to the rescue. Lauren Filer has that little bit of magic in her and she provided some to remove Bates.

England spinner Charlie Dean on Sky Sports: "There is a bit of spin on offer and bit for the seamers early but it's a good wicket.

"The boundaries are quite small, not sure I'm a fan of that as a spinner! But you know that the batters are going to target that so you can use it in your favour.

"We knew they were going to come hard at us early because their batting line-up is top heavy. But the key wickets from Sophie Ecclestone after the powerplay made it easier for us at the back end.

"We're happy with that total, we are going to go out there and play positively."

  20. New Zealand 156 all outpublished at 33.3 overs

Well, New Zealand will be disappointed with that. Very disappointed. Very, very disappointed.

Remember Sophie Devine had absolutely no hesitation in saying 'we shall bat first please Heather' when the coin dropped favourably for her. In fairness, there were no signs initially of the troubles to come. After ten overs (ie the end of the Power Play) the tourists were going along steadily at 56 for 1.

But spin led to their demise. More specifically, Charlie Dean's off-spin led to their demise: 4 for 38 from 9 overs. Exceptional.

New Zealand left 16.3 overs out there. Criminal. Not literally, naturally, but in a cricketing context, very much an offence that should lead to handcuffs.
