Chris Woakes has been bowling beautifully and got the big wicket of KL Rahul. He's been the standout for England. He's got the ball nibbling around.

It's another week where the sun's shining and the England captain's chosen to bowl first. It's the way they do business.

India's best chance of getting a result is by putting on a score and then hoping the ball spins a bit.

India are playing a Test against England at Edgbaston for the ninth time.

India are, however, winless at the venue in their previous eight meetings with England having won seven and one draw.

Six England fielders have jogged off at the drinks break. That's a long queue for the toilet.

    Ind 37-1published at 13 overs

Karun Nair drives through the covers for four. Chris Woakes puts his finger up in the air for another, albeit brief, lbw appeal.

They're the highlights of the 13th over and probably the first hour at Edgbaston.

At drinks, India are 37-1, with Karun Nair on 19 and Yashasvi Jaiswal on 15.

God bless TMS. I had a ticket for today, I was to travel from Kent to London and then a coach to Birmingham. I left home at 6.25am, had two trains on two different train lines cancelled, and then missed my coach. I gave up, had a cry and was home in time for TMS to start live coverage. As I say, God bless TMS.

That will boost Karun Nair's confidence. He timed the ball really well and moved his feet.

This was a very good shot. There was nothing wrong with the ball from Josh Tongue.

  9. Ind 30-1published at 12 overs

Karun Nair has found his scoring area of choice. Back-to-back drives through the covers. Glorious timing.

Josh Tongue's penultimate ball jags back but Nair leaves with confidence. That was quite close to the stumps.

    Nine off the over.

'Beautiful bowling' - How Woakes targeted Rahul

Chris Woakes has been relentless this morning, hitting a good line and length with 47% of his deliveries in this five-over spell - among the highest percentage for any of his career opening spells.

Because of this nagging accuracy, he has been incredibly economical, conceding just four runs from 30 balls. Throughout his career, only once has he been more economical in the first five overs of an innings (0.40 rpo v NZ, 2019).

  11. Ind 21-1published at 11 overs

Umpire's call has handed lifelines to Yashasvi Jaiswal on 12 and Karun Nair on five.

Josh Tongue comes into the attack, replacing Brydon Carse.

On another day, Chris Woakes could've had all three batters out.

The ball just showed to be clipping. It was definitely worth having a look at.

Umpire's call! It's just clipping again.

Poor Chris Woakes. He should have three wickets but has to be content with one.

Sigh of relief for Karun Nair.

Personally, it looks a bit high to me.

If you thought Chris Woakes was keen on his previous review, this time he is absolutely convinced that he has a wicket.

One ball after hitting the bowler for four, Karun Nair is struck on the pads.
